I've been having booting problems, so I thought maybe my (new) PSU wasn't working. I unplugged everything and tested it with the paperclip method, and the PSU and everything worked fine. But, when I re-plugged the 24 pin plug back into my motherboard and tried to turn it on, it wouldn't work.

Is it safe to say that my motherboard is kill and I should get a new one? Pisses me off because I got a brand new Z140 Pro4S in April and the shit's already dead. Can I go ahead and buy a new one or would this problem happen even if the motherboard didn't go bad?

Did you even bother to check the ram?

How would I go about doing that? I have 2x8gb. Would I just take one stick out, try turning it on, then take the other out and try to turn it on?
>>
Sounds like it needs more power. Go ahead and connect some AC leads straight from the wall to the motherboard, that'll jump start it.

Is this a meme

Just because the PSU turns on doesn't mean it is supplying the correct voltages.

What is happening? Does the Motherboard have any lights? Any fan spin when you press the power button? Have you tried jumping the PSU while its on the board?

I don't know, do you want it to be a meme?
>>

Jumping the PSU when it's on the board makes nothing turn on, jumping it when disconnected to the board and it works fine.

"Nothing turning on" being neither the PSU nor any other part of the PC (fans, etc.)

Software diagnoses won't work if the computer itself won't turn on

Any lights on the board at all?

Best way to tell is check the +3.3v, +5v and +12v lines with a multimeter. If anything, 12v should be checked. 5v should be powering the fan possibly any LEDs on the board.
>>
>>56557766
Nothing turns on when it is attached to the board, so no lights or fans are turning on either.

I don't have a multimeter, do I need to get one?
>>
>>56557795
If no lights come on the board at all, I'd suspect the board.
>>
>>56557807
I didn't know there were lights on the board itself to begin with. Are they small or something? What should I be looking for?
>>
>>56557847
A little LED on the board that indicates it has power. It could be anywhere. Sometimes near the 24 pin connector, but not always.
>>
>>56557887
No lights.

Anything else I should do before buying a new board?
>>

Take the board out of the case and try to power it on, could be shorting out on something... like a screw wedged between the board and motherboard tray.
