Yes it's a marvelously perfect design

It's awesome because you can upgrade it to the point where it blows current Mac Pro on the market out of the water.

It has a finely sectioned interior indeed.
Which is a shame, because you'll never see it; all the while the outside is absolutely disgusting.

too bad you cant strip out all that ancient macintosh electronics out of it and put in a new ATX board & powersupply, drives & etc...

Are Mac Pros actually good? Were they ever good? All I see is them getting BTFO all day every day by YT "Mac vs PC" benchmark tests to which a thousand butthurt Mac users cry "buh it's not for gaming!". Who is right?
>>
>>56558072
Good, yes. But probably overpriced for what they are. You're paying for the OS unless you wanna get a Hackintosh.

Personally, I would rather get a beefed up MBP than a Mac Pro.
>>
>>56557078
and for a tiny fraction of the cost
>>
My mom is a graphic designer at an ad agency and they all use macs. They have about 3 of those sitting around gathering dust since they've upgraded. Would it be possible to put PC parts in the case or do they use different mounting points and stuff? I don't like apple products but those aluminum cases are pretty cool looking
>>
>>56558072
It's worth it for the OS, but given what I've seen I would not recommend getting a new Mac to anyone. Unless someone else is paying.

Regarding the topic of the thread, you can get a Mac Pro 4,1-5,1 for around 400$ and as someone just mentioned, upgrade it at relatively low cost to the point that it gives the trashcan Mac Pro a serious run for it's money.

If you want/need OS X that's not a bad option.

It really is not for gaming,
and gaming is not important at all for most people.
>>
>>56558533
>It really is not for gaming
This. The current base model Mac Pro ships with a FirePro and a Xeon. It's clearly a workstation. The high-end MacBook Pro ships with the M370X. The high-end iMac ships with an R9 M395, but a 5K screen, so it's woefully underpowered.

There are probably more games available for Linux than OS X/macOS.

Apple recently released their own version of DX12/Vulkan called Metal, which may help the lackluster graphics capabilities of most Macs, but until Apple starts putting video game oriented GPU's in their computers, gaming on OS X/macOS will always be behind the competition.

>>
>>56556131
Yeah, actually. Except for the MacPro 1,1 and 2,1. Fuck apple for that 32bit EFI bullshit.
>>
>>56558072
It's literally useless in every single way.

A regular user who wants to use Mac OS would just get a Macbook/iMac.
A gamer would use a gaming PC and a Macbook/iMac as a main PC.
A professional would use a workstation that isn't complete trash and a Macbook/iMac for a main PC.

I actually had a Sun Ultra 40 back in the day. Sun was doing a free trial system and I was curious just how bad some of the software at work was, so I brought mine in to prove a point.

About 4 weeks into it, all 6 of the machines the rest of the team was using were replaced with C2D E6600's, including mine. I sent the Ultra 40 back to Sun two days before they said I could keep it.

Oh well...
>>
>>56558913
This. It's either overpriced or underperforms in any use case

For a general computer it's ok/10.
I've had mine for years, years and years.
I've upgraded all the parts myself (even changed out a motherboard once) and it's a lot cheaper than people believe, but the initial investment is very pricy.
However I've also never had my macbook fail once, i've never had any problems performance wise other than the face i'm obviously limited when it comes to the graphics card. So I can't play certain games on higher settings.
However I have yet to find a game that I couldn't play.

It's also not as restricted as people believe from an OS standpoint. It's an OS, it has rules and it has pathways like anything else. Learning how to change them is very frustrating because each command has been rewritten from unix into a completely new language.
So finding the complete list of commands takes a long time and a lot of mac users are not tech sav so there is a lot less online help for learning the deeper portions of the OS. Unlike Linux variations or windows, which has hundreds of pages for every google search of different ways to do something in most cases.

Digression sorry,
The first buy will be tough and hard to justify.
In this case PC fags are correct and always will be.
If you can get one low cost or for free, don't let someone else stop you from making your own decisions.

I work with all systems at my job, which is how I came into ownership of one.

Not only was Jobs a fruit eating gay hippie who never bathed, he also was a liar.
>>
My dad's got an old G5 with a busted motherboard still standing around under his desk, and I've been doing a lot of planning and research on how to fit my main computer in it.
Recently stripped some stuff out of it, but need some long hex screwdrivers to get the CPU heatsinks out.
