Thoughts on ubuntu MATE for old laptops?

I'm using it primarily a workstation and a old hp pavilion dv6. This shit is awfully overheating even if undervolted but it did that with Windows too but worse - until shutdown...

The laptop is really really shitty. Never hp consumer electronics again. I can't do heavy stuff on it but UM made it usable as a media consumption mashine again. It doesnt crash bc of the heat anymore.
The workstation does everything flawlessly.
I stopped distro hopping, it looks decent out of the box and is super comfy.
If you have questions the Community is pretty active too.
