I plan on upgrading my rig from a 4 year old i3 to a new AMD 8XXX and was wondering if it'd be worth while or should I just wait for the AMD zen? I do vidya from time to time, but even then it's typically retro games that any pc could run so I'm not too worried about that. I typically use my rig for programming homework and shitty youtube videos.
You should wait for Zen you imbecile
why not an intel i-series? from what i hear, AMD's have lower longevity than i-series.
running an fx6100 myself but i cant comment since it wasn't the latest and greatest when i bought it
wait for zen senpai

I have a fx8370 myself.
Just don't do it. I always seem to underperforming in modern games. AMD processors are trash right now.

Like I say I only play retro games because muh nostalgia. Granted I do play a lot of AAA games for an hour or so after release day so that may become a factor.

The price is the only thing that tells me no pal.

Wait for Zen, don't be an idiot.

>'Upgrading' a 4 year old i3 to a 4 year old FX chip with a new architecture 6 months away
Are you genuinely retarded OP or just plain fucking stupid?

Is it worth the wait is what I'm asking.
Going to hijack this thread for the same question.
My current rig is already 8 years old. Intel Q9950 e0, 4GB DDR2. A bit newer: GTX 660 OC.
I asked a friend of mine to give me some middle class stuff and he told me about these parts here:
Intel Core i5-6600K, 4x 3,5 GHz
Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3P 1.0 (1151)
CorsairVengeance LPX 16 GB (2x8 GB) DDR4 DRAM 2800 MHz - CL14
I'm planning to upgrade to this monitor probably: ASUS MG24UQ.
Or dual the MG24UQ and the MG248Q.
No clue about which GPU to pick since I've no clue which one would manage 4K at 60Hz and isn't insanely expensive. I would prefer an AMD card.
For what I'm using the computer, my current system is still - more or less - enough, but it's showing signs for getting pretty damn old.
Should I still wait? And, also, is it still to early to upgrade to a 4K display? I think that DP 1.3+ should be able to manage 4K at 100Hz but there simply aren't any so far.
Just upgraded to an i7-6700k. It's beautiful.
