if you get spam you should just mark it as spam. the icon indicates the unread inbox count. you should be able to mark them as read, archive, whatever.

i don't understand how you can keep a stack of more than 20 or 30 unread emails. if something you get in the morning isn't important enough to read, either archive it or file it away some other way (report as spam, delete, label, etc...)

I can't, because I an mark emails as read/done in their notification when they arrive, so I don't have any unread emails in my inbox.
