I never said I wasn't connected to Google. I just said I use the non-JavaScript captcha. You can see in the image here >>56533454 which domains I'm connected to and what I allowed for each of them.
>>
Put it like this, you know the massive nuclear arsenal that the U.S. has possession of? Well they're controlled by computer systems. Most electronics are hackable, and nukes are indeed hackable because the NSA reports millions of attempts every day by hackers trying to gain access to them.

My point: the computers that control the nukes, yes they are hackable, but you can be sure they're not connected to any scripting like Google captcha, Javascript, etc.
>it makes security worse
>>
My only complaint about NoScript is that I can't (ostensibly) filter third-party scripts on a domain-per-domain basis. For instance, is there a way to allow Google scripts to load ONLY on 4chan, and no other site? It seems any script that you whitelist gets whitelisted on a global basis.

As for other FF extensions I'd generally recommend:

Blender - Spoofs info such as your browser version, OS, etc. that's leaked to Web sites. Useful if you don't want sites to create some sort of unique ID based around this info. The spoofed info attempts to make it look like you're using a very common browser and computer setup, which is less likely to set you apart from hundreds of thousands of other individuals.

Cookie Controller - Makes it easier to manage cookie permissions on a site-per-site basis. Adds a toolbar icon that lets you toggle cookie permissions or clear cookies more quickly.

PureURL - Strips garbage from URLs, such as embedded referrers.

BetterPrivacy - Clears persistent Flash cookies on exit. Assuming you're even using Flash.

There's an add-on called Watch With MPV that does basically that. Right-click on a link and select it, or hit a button for the page you're on, and it streams the video and plays it in MPV. Works for some video players/websites.

It's equivalent to
mpv <url>
or
youtube-dl <url> -o - | mpv -
. That's right, you can stream video through a Unix pipe. But all three of these options seem to only work for up to 720p, since the format YouTube uses for 1080p has the video and audio separately which means you have to download them both in full and mux them together before you start watching.
>>
>>56533294

You mean neither. You don't need an extension to block ads. Your OS has a HOSTS file that's capable of doing this at no additional cost of resources.

t. This is how I've been block ads for the past decade.

>>
>>56533846
You only need IP and HTTP headers to track someone across websites although it does require the system to be implemented on multiple websites. As an example...

>IP 1.2.3.4 with HTTP headers XYZ visits website1.com
>a user with matching IP and HTTP headers visits website2.com, website3.com etc.

It can be assumed with high probability that this is all the same person, especially if it's within a short time frame. Now even if you obtain a new IP from your ISP, it'll most likely be in the same IP range so then they'll see someone with a different IP but in the same IP-range as the previous user and the same HTTP headers so once again they can assume with a high probability that this is the same user. They can also use other information such as the time of the day you access the websites.

Why isn't uBlock Origin included by default? It would prevent some tracking and also lower the load on the Tor network. Perhaps remove the ability to add custom lists so instead of downloading them the filters would be read from ublock0.sqlite in the Tor browser profile folder. This way everyone would have the same sets of filter, no bandwidth would be used to fetch them and they don't really need to be updated often.

To everyone claiming that uMatrix is superior in every way to NoScript: the latter supports script surrogates, while the former doesn't (AFAIK). That means less websites will break when not enabling scripts that are expected but not really necessary.

http://www.ghacks.net/2015/11/24/noscript-script-surrogates-explained/

>When you visit a site in Firefox that loads the Google Analytics script on page load, NoScript intercepts that request and replaces it automatically with the replacement instructions (which basically tell the site that the Analytics script was loaded fine but does nothing in regards to user recording).

If I recall correctly, this applies to 4chan too.

>>56533752

Whitelist only the domains you trust, or the bare minimum to get the current website working. If a website doesn't work, start by enabling its domain and *CDNs, but not analytics and ad networks. You can give temporary permissions. NoScript will remember what domains you trust and enable them wherever else on the web you encounter them (for example: once you allow YouTube, you will see embedded videos in other websites too).
>>
>>56534297
Thanks for the answer. Is it safe to enable YouTube?
>>
First off, I don't consider myself by any definition of the word and expert. This is just my personal opinion and preference when it comes to browsing/combing through the bullshit.

Umatrix is the only add on I bother with, though I suppose I should look into 'HTTPS Everywhere' as well. With Umatrix I can be assured that every site I click on will be filtered of the annoying adware and bullshit. Of course it also filters everything else that is usually necessary to fully use the site, but that is not always the case. In cases where I need to use blocked stuff, I just turn it off for that site and refresh. Again, not being an expert, I realize that turning on only a few instances is probably needed, and I did try and do this originally, but trying to figure it out for each new site is too much of a pain, so I just open the flood gates if I believe the site to be "trustworthy".

TLDR: Umatrix allows me to enter most sites without being burdened by the bullshit, unless I choose to be burdened by it. Also speeds up browsing for slow as PC's that get bogged down by bullshit scripts/ads/popups.
>>
>>56534297
But can you customize and choose individual scripts you wish to let through with NoScript?
>>
>>56534783

Tip: with the NoScript list popup open, shift+click the name of a domain you want to know more about. Follow the link to WoT and you'll see what people think about that domain, so you can make your decision.
>>
>>56533701
But do you have a crontab entry for a script that automates the tedious task of curating/updating that hosts file?
>>
>>56534244
>muh philosophy
That's retarded as fuck. Even if they want to allow ads, that's fine, but at least create a custom list to block tracking scripts. I can see why they wouldn't add uMatrix. It's probably too complicated for regular users but uBlock Origin is pretty much set-it-and-forget-it.

The future of technology is grim. You don't even realize the illusions and delusions you people believe to hide the truth of what's happening.

A simple thing as the fact that you can't post on 4chan without Google knowing who you are as you post- you use some web application that you tell yourself that it's hiding you, all the while trying to deceive yourself when you know that they know. Not just Google knows everything about you, 'they' know.

hosts-file blocking is inferior to adblocking software because
-no context-based rules
-domains can either be blocked completely, or not at all, blocking only certain directories or files isn't possible.
-no element hiding, which is mostly useful to manually block mildly annoying things like "check this other stuff on our site out etc."

Not a javascript exploit, but Newegg distributed randomsware to users via a hijacked flash ad. The same could have been done with javascript.

There was also a popular anime streaming site I used to visit maybe 5 years ago. The ads would always get hijacked and I'd get trojan alerts.

Enabling JS today is like leaving your front door wide open.
>>
>>56537029
Has nothing to do with not wanting a site to work properly.

Most sites rely on ad revnue. Ads sometimes use JS to be interactive or display their bullshit. Ads are highly targeted, and thus are a major vector for infection.

i used noscript for a while until i figured out how to add adblock plus's URLs to /etc/hosts and block them

127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com
127.0.0.1 facebook.com
127.0.0.1 login.facebook.com
127.0.0.1 www.login.facebook.com
127.0.0.1 fbcdn.net
127.0.0.1 www.fbcdn.net
127.0.0.1 fbcdn.com
127.0.0.1 www.fbcdn.com
127.0.0.1 static.ak.fbcdn.net
127.0.0.1 static.ak.connect.facebook.com
127.0.0.1 connect.facebook.net
127.0.0.1 www.connect.facebook.net

any website can be permanently blocked for all apps (not just firefox) with the /etc/hosts file

fucking kek
>>
>>56540864
>>56540550
the primary function of noscript is not to prevent ads.
can you fags even google it?
>>
>>56540864
That only catches things that need to be looked up. If a script / site references an IP address directly (and many do) then your hosts file won't help you.
>>
>>56540864
>>56540550
>>56540922
even more, do you know where the name "NoScript" comes from?
>>
>>56540529
JavaScript doesn't have access to the file system

4chan is an elaborate google botnet farm.

For 4chan X, and other site specific scripts I try create
>HTTPS-Everywhere
>Old Default Image Style
Stop direct image URLS from being centred
>Policeman
Easy image blocking and loading
>Tree Style Tab
Good tab organization
>uBlock Origin
Block ads
>uMatrix
Block scripts, etc
>User-Agent Switcher
Load mobile versions of specific sites
>vimFX
use keyboard to navigate links/tabs

This
Literally all you fucking need.
>>
op you want ublock and/or umatrix. the noscript dev is a prick, and now there is an alternative, no reason to use his software.
>>
I love noscript. It's horrible how many unnecessary scripts most sites push your PC to run.
Fuckers should run them on their servers if they want not on my machine
>>
>>56533216
>install noscript
>most pages stop working properly
>can't be arsed to spend hours on trying to get a sensible configuration, which will be a neverending chore anyway because there always will be new sites not working properly with the current noscript settings

Thanks for nothing.
>>
>>56544771
you only have to do it once per site basically
>>
>>56545050
>site doesn't work
>(temporarily) whitelist the site's domain
>still doesn't work
>site uses a cdn
>have to whitelist 18a3j3r9j292389j1asda.cloudfront.net to view the most of it because they put everything on the cdn
>uh oh, some ad is serving malware through 12388asd8afgsj398312.cloudfront.net and you just accidentally whitelisted that instead
fuck everything. I like noscript and I have no idea how to fix this problem.
>>
A few I can recommend:
-Save image/link in folder: name says everything. Folder list is fully customizable.
-Image zoom: zoom and rotate images. Zoom isn't lost if you view another tab. A must have for fap sessions.
-Decentraleyes: locally emulates a lot of CDN networks (jquery etc.), allowing you to view webpages without connecting to 10 other CDN botnet for viewing one "modern" website.
-Singing stallman: allows you to listen to the free software song any time. Includes multiple performances, check out them all.

both advertising and bad scripts come from websites, websites have IP addresses, kill two birds with one stone, add the bad ipaddresses to the /etc/hosts file

now you look like an idiot troll

Speaking of Mozilla, I cannot believe no ones mentioned Profile Spoofer.
