Given the fact that the largest manufacturers of mechanical keyboards are companies that produce peripherals aimed at gamers, that doesn't seem to far fetched.

Good thing that this place is full of mature fifteen year olds.

You know that since I'm a very small operation I can't store large rolls of metal. Most the scrap I get I use to make small things to patch up stuff.

Also the biggest problem would be cooling the thing. Right now I just use a lot of WD40 and if I'm gonna be milling a large chunk of aluminum I need to get a dedicated coolant system which is also another grand

What's the point of "le_haxxor_60%" keyboard? Is it designed for some kind of text editor like vi or emacs or operating/computer system other than ibm pc compatibles?

Where are the function keys? Thinkpad users complain about them and actually need them for example. Key combinations are uncomfortable.

Where are the arrow keys? How do i move my coursor or play pacman? Okay, you say muh "homerow", but i see no trackpoint too.

Is there any existing keyboard with socketed Cherry switches? If one fails, i'll just swap it for another without soldering.

>>56525195
there is an upgraded version going on massdrop in a couple of days that has upgrades that I don't care for, but for some reason they chose a better font, and the price increase is still better than buying the original+new keycaps. However my internet is kind of bad and for whatever reason I can't load that massdrop page
>>
>>56523522
Look pretty good, all that it needs is a trackpoint.
Now: How are you going to make this shit?
>>
>>56525171
Its just a stencil font. They use it because stencil fonts are easy and cheap to doubleshot. Same reason why "replacement keys seem to be $40 and up", although you can still find those same shitty stencil caps for $10 shipped on ebay.

Vintage cherries are considered superior to modern day cherries since they're far smoother than the newer ones.

Cherry really should invest in some new molds. They're top of the game, but gateron does a better job at being smooth, which is the most noticeable part compared to their cherry counterparts.

Not that I would buy a GMK set myself.

Still even if you want Dolch style from DCS you've gotta pay over a hundred bucks. I don't get why making 54 of the keys grey instead of blacks commands such a premium.

I believe that stencil fonts are easier to doubleshot, but I don't believe that that's their primary reason for choosing a non-standard font. Look at these ones, they're cheap, they're not stencil, and they're still using some retarded hacker font.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Ducky-filco-ABS-104-double-color-Translucidus-Backlight-Keycaps-Key-Cap-For-Cherry-ISO-Mechanical-Keyboard/32616849610.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.58.0ZIFP0&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_7,searchweb201602_4_10057_10056_10065_10068_10055_10067_10054_10069_10059_10058_10073_10017_10070_10060_10061_10052_10062_10053_10050_10051,searchweb201603_7&btsid=ed164930-2af8-453d-aeef-abfab8f04f60

Unicomp is built in USA and has fantastic customer service. Also the membrane buckling spring will be pretty different than a cherry mx blue.

I was going to get a Unicomp but the dealbreaker was that there's only 2KRO+modifier, even with PS/2
>>
>>56536206
those are shine-through and they look double shot, the font is due to the manufacturing the process, the straight lines make it less likely to fail

the ones in my original post are also shine-through and double shot, but they have an ugly font. I said they had a dumb 'hacker font' and anon replied stating that it was just a stencil font for ease of manufacturing, not a 'hacker font.' Then I showed that keycap set, which is also shine through and cheap, but is not a stencil font. Therefore I still believe that retarded stencil fonts and the like are just a result of catering to 12 year olds.
>>
>>56536735
>Low resolution: double-shot legends are limited to low resolution designs with broad strokes and rounded corners. The range of typefaces and symbol designs available with pad printing and dye sublimation cannot be achieved with double-shot, as the moulding process doesn't support the fine detail and sharp edges that those processes afford.

both fonts are ugly, they just don't have much to work with

I think I'm going to get the E-Element keyboard

https://www.massdrop.com/buy/e-element-rgb-keyboard

I know there's a cheaper version that's not hot-swappable, but that cheaper version for whatever reason has a different font that I dont' like and it will cost more to buy an extra keycap set than to just buy the upgraded version with the font that I like.

Is there a glaring reason to not get this keyboard?
>>
>>56536903
I can think of many reasons but as your first? Sure why not. Just replace those damn caps try getting a slick abs set or a cheap but nice pbt set
I just dont trust the switches but never tried the blue otms
>>
>>56536903
the RGB leds are probably just on/off so white (red+green+blue) will probably look worse (tinted and limited color spectrum) compared to if you had plain white leds. and go for a keyboards with PBT keycaps imo even though it will be more expensive
>>
>>56536790
I didn't mean to say that the 2nd font was pretty, I meant to say it was non-stencil. If it's non stencil, doubleshot, and cheap, then that means that stencil fonts are not a necessity for cheap chink brands with double shot keycaps.

However, I don't even know if the 2nd example is really doubleshot. I think they can use the other processes to get shinethrough keys, and it doesn't say on the link.

I'm not trying to pit against you or anything, I'm just still convinced that stencil fonts are used just for the aesthetics of the keyboard, and that certain group of aesthetics is reaching out towards 12-year-olds.
>>
>>56536984

unicomp is bulkier and it only has 2KRO

choc mini is more compact so the keys are closer to reach (more efficient and ergonomic) and you can have the mouse even closer to the typing area

gateron is considered to be superior to modern cherry probably because cherry has old worn out molds, but choc mini does come with cherry mx too

>>56538081
yes
>>
>>56538081
I don't think you need it for typing, since you won't be using large combinations of buttons. But I think someone told me that the way the keyboard or computer works is that if the signals come in too close together then they'll be considered overlapping and can get ignored if you only have 2KRO.

For games it definitely matters, because you'll be using button combinations all the time

But it sucks to miss out on brand new buckling springs with excellent customer service for only $84

I do. Buckling springs ping as fuck, alps have some nice switches, but most of them are too wobbly or IMO too tactile -although I never tested blues or oranges yet. Also, travel distance is not as big as I like.
Topres are overpriced garbage. Omrons are way to tactile, and modern omrons (logitech orion someshit) are just like cherry browns, but worse. Space invaders are scratchy, not more tactile than browns and really prone to dust.

Lubed cherry clears, zealios, gateron tactile clears on the other hand feel pretty nice. Gateron greens and zealistotles/aristotlerons are also pretty nice.

There is also the keycap issue, even if I find the perfect switch, if it does not have decent thick cherry profile caps, it wont matter.

Right, so in your opinion you put headphones and cherry blues instantly turn from shit to the best switch even created.

Tactility and clickyness were created to indicate actuation. The same reason why there isnt a single clicky non tactile switch.

What was I thinking /g/?

I bought Razer's shitty "mechanical" Blackwidow GamerGreen(tm) keyboard 2 years ago and now all I want to do is get rid of it and buy an actual decent keyboard for typing.

How the fuck can I get my money back on this $200 green piece of shit?

I plan on converting a mx black board to blue; blacks are a bit too stiff for my taste and I'd like some tactile and auditive feedback.

Loved the comfort of the blues, wasn't really fond of the noise, even in my comfy home.
If you want tactile switches but no click, I'd recommend clears over browns. I have the latter and hate those.

>>56553866
I think it might be the age, but it feels like you are typing on a sponge. There is no tactile feedback what so ever, which even rubber domes have. Luckily the keyboard beeps every time a switch actuates. Also it has some of the nicest key caps I've ever seen in my life. They are over 30 years old and when I first found it they were covered with 10 years of dust and grease, but they still look brand new and feel great
