There's nothing wrong with it, just as there's nothing wrong with knowing the time in shanghai or the troy ounce price of gold, but if I'm interested in any of those figures I'll just look them up. There's no reason to be constantly reminded of minor curiosities, unimportant to the work you are doing at the very moment. If something goes wrong or if I'm testing something specific I will of course add a monitor, but I won't be distracted by it unless I have to.

Having a weather conky widget just chilling in the background is super handy to have. You don't need to uber rice it out, just pick a nice font and have it blend in with your background, pick a few images to go with "scattered showers" "overcast" etc.
