For wired headphones you need to buy apple's own special dongle to add a headphone port. Having a ton of shit hanging off your phone isn't beautiful. Needing to worry about your headphone's batteries isn't beautiful. This is good for apple's profits, it probably makes internals a bit simpler, and it makes the phone a little thinner.

The AirPods just work especially well with the iPhone 7 because of the W1 chip (which, by the way, will probably be licensed out within a year).

The W1 chip, by the way, has the potential to resolve most of the worst qualities of Bluetooth. I have no idea what it does or doesn't do re: sound quality, but I can tell you that it un-fucks the headache-inducing process of wrangling Bluetooth pairings across multiple devices, which is a big deal.

I found the stupid. To listen music, headphones need to support A2DP. Which is found on stereo earpods (%99 of the time, some put both speakers in one ear but it's mono). And there is literally no (except that kickstarter shit) wireless stereo (actual stereo) on the market. Which means, if you want to listen to good stereo (as you know, Apple's earpod quality is pretty low), you have to use a dongle. Lost the dongle? Too bad. Buy a new one. Oh, your charge is going zero? You want to plug in your power bank? Buy this adapter that doubles your ports! Too dumb.

No, I don't know that, and neither do you. I use EarPods regularly, and they sound fine. Not extravagant, but good enough for something that came with my phone and stays in my ears properly (for me, not many do). Beyond my own personal experience, those who have actually used AirPods at the Apple conference (i.e. neither of us) have reported that the AirPods' sound quality was significantly better than that of the standard EarPods.

W1 is a Digital Audio Converter that integrates as well a co-processor to transmit the data from the several sensors the Airpods have onboard...

Nothing fancy actually since Apple is doing it their way with no effort on impronving the tech (because they have theyre own audio codec) they may even start fucking around with an alternative to aptX over bluetooth or finally use the NFC for something.

But it wont happen.

Add that LG and Sony have much better DAC's on board and support for glorified but good EQ's like Dolby or Viper.

iPhones do have a very decent DAC but its not really that good, any chinese rockchip/mtk based has a same quality DAC. Beats? thats just a glorified gimmick EQ preset.

The S7 is water resistant in something like a meter of water for 30 minutes. You can't take it much deeper or for much longer than that before all bets are off. That's why they don't call it water proof.

Also the water resistance thing is nice for if you ever accidentally drop your phone into water or if you want to take underwater pics or videos. I got some great underwater slow motion videos of me and some friends diving into an underwater cave earlier this summer. pretty cool.

The biggest problem here is apple cucking ifags without them realizing it. IOS has been lacking the major modern BT audio codecs, it's still stuck in the past so no wonder the audio sounds like shit. It doen't matter what BT device you use on IOS, if it's using shit codecs the audio is going to be shit compared to any decent device using modern codecs on Android.
Apple is just doing the same as always, being late to the game, proprietary and then claiming to be reinventing the wheel.
