alright you fucking autists, enouph with the $1,200 graphics cards.

you have $100 to build a functional pc out of new or used parts, you must provide documentation. we are assuming that you have the correct display, power cables, keyboard and mouse, and a hard drive it just needs to be a functional pc, it doesn't have to be pretty.

parts must be compatable, but adaptation and hacking are allowed, such as splicing a different fan connector or such, no case required, but you must have a power supply source within your budget that is capable of powering everything you've specced.

so basically for $100
1. motherboard
2. cpu
3. ram
4. psu
5. gpu

winner gets purchased and built by op and is the go to build when a newfag asks what pc is gud.

Do people really buy new computers every school year? I see the term "back to school" all the time with computers.
>>
>>56502682
No. Those are for people who are looking to buy a computer to school.
>>
>>56502682
Not every, but there are plenty of kids who start college every year, or start high school that will need a new computer to be able to get their school work done.

That comes to £77.87 which is $100 within the variation of the exchange rate over the past few weeks. Dunno if you can buy them for those prices in the US mind.

Also no CPU cooling

Forgot to mention, will also require physically hacking the cpu mount so it accepts LGA771 CPUS, and changing the bios microcode.

Had to do the same thing with a dumpster dived PC and that CPU

Put a GTX 750 and 6Gb RAM in it, it plays The Witcher 2 on Ultra

There are 4 seasons. Basically linus and luke go out with a budget and/or goal in mind and build a computer from stuff on craigslist. Also, linus almost always cheats. It's still pretty good though.

cheapest Dell optioplex (or whatever they are) on eBay / Gumtree
used 600w psu also on eBay and Gumtree
used gpu with whatever money is left over

A die grinder to mod the case

$100us =$130au. it could probably play csgo on medium at 1080
>>
>>56504868
130aud is easy, 50 dollar core 2 duo off eBay, 30 dollar 775 to 771 modded quad core Xeon, 50 dollar second hand gpu off gumtree
>>
>>56506209
Aliexpress for pre modded xeon quad core I have a l5420 works great, plenty of websites that list compatibility of chipsets with Xeon processors

Just buy from a reliable seller I'm using mine with a gtx 960 till I save up for a new build, works great definitely not a super powerful quad-core but is about in line with an old i5

If it wasnt for the personal standard, I wouldnt be miserable about getting an i3-21xx machine for less than 100 bucks
cheapest i3 could find was a bit more than $45; a working used mobo for about $25; RAM, PSU, HDD and maybe a screen wont be less than $50
>>
>>56506953
But I was able to get and i3 at my local good will for about $40. I was able to take the cpu when the case was fucked up.

Sadly, this f'n nearly impossible to accomplish in Taiwan. Stuff that is considered obsolete practically will still go for nearly full retail price. I guess they got non compete clauses with the local market, because the local market is a cesspool of outrageous prices and a culture of only buying new. This build would be like $300 USD here at a minimum. They even try and sell Raspberry pi for $60 USD.
chinks gonna chink each other.

The target is cheap. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/TXk6D8 will play games, and you can add drives or adjust as needed.
>>
>>56503288
You could drop one of the ram sticks, and the hard drive (boot from flash drive) and save $25. Do that, plus drop the case (just leave the parts connected on the floor) and it's under $100

Bought a case off of craigslist for $50 that came with a fuck ton of parts. Don't have any real proof other than emails and pictures.

I just need to get a 7870 or 7850 off of craigslist and ill be set.
>>
>>56509223
I have a 7850 on hand, ships from France or my PO box. You interested?
>>
>>56501719
does it count if I already had everything but a motherboard, cpu, ram, and case?
>>
>>56504424
So? It's not like mechanical drives went much over 1oo MB /s until well into SaTA era. Even modern drives only do a bit over 2oo MB/s.
>>
>>56509275
Already have a gtx 760 in it I got from a friend. Was talking about the challenge though.
>>
>>56503151
You still need a CPU cooler and a loop for the oil, or your just heating the oil.
>>
>>56508053
But your bait is priceless.
>>
>>56509345
Damn, I've been trying to sell this shit.
>>
>>56501719

I just built it for $55 based on prices from my local Mexican retailer.

>1. motherboard
>2. cpu
>3. ram
>5. gpu

All included in one of those $30 low end all-in-one mobos with Pentium 3s, 512MB, and integrated graphics.

>4. psu

The same one I use for my rig, costs roughly $25 for 650W and has been running for 2 years.

Could do this using eBay. Look at old xeon and server mobo. They are cheap as hell. Xeon 5530 for < $5 mobo < 30 ram < 10(if not included with mobo). Shit psu 10-20, gpu can be found between 10-15, case for 5-15. Max imum cost is 95. Easy baby. And you could book off of a flash drive you buy for like 5. Done.
>>
>>56512779
Oh shit I forgot about Windows license. Shit. Well that doubles the cost.....
>>
Get a ps3

There's an old warehouse at my Uni that sells computers dirt cheap.

I got pic related for $65
i5-650
8GB of RAM
(Soon to be in there GTX 635 that I found for $10)

Only issue is it's missing a HDD so I have to buy one, bringing my total to <$100

It's entirely possible if you know where to look.
>>
>>56512955
It's an old Dell Optiplex 980 (which I have a soft spot for)

This is going to be my Linux box, because I'm sick of dual booting.

The only issue is that it's a 250W power supply, but I can probably find a cheap 400W one that'll keep me under budget
>>
>>56502587
I had 4 Dell Optiplex 745s or 755s that I fucking threw out

Not sure what else I could do with them, those things were a lot shittier than that one
>>
>>56501719
This is actually my main computer i built 10months ago, slightly over at 110$.
Msi am1i - 20$
Amd 5350- 50$
Pico psu (used) - 13$
8gb ddr3 module(used)- 27$
Case- gutted an old DVR - free
>>
>>56503048
Pretty good little build, other than the GPU. Picked up a used GTX480 that was "dead" (just needed new paste) for £20 on Gumtree the other week. Still not a bad build.
