In the time it takes someone to notice the fire and call the fire department, it will already be getting borderline out of control. By the time the fire dept arrives, usually half the car is engulfed in flames and its a total loss.

We have a water truck at work which is like a 6 wheeler with a big water tank on the back. We were composting mulch to using it to wet down the mulch to keep it from lighting on fire. Sokme small electric fire started in the cab and no one was in it. The entire cab melted faster then I would have though possible. Just the entire thing gone.
