PCI if you can afford the port.

Look into a powerline adapter kit if the router is on a different floor or too far away.
Get a PCI adapter because a USB one always gives problems.

How do powerline adapters actually work? I know it basically turns the lines into network cables, but that seems like magic. Does your house need a certain setup for them to work?

Basically uses the copper lines in your walls to send the interwebs signal. Device in the wall makes it back from current to internet signal. Problem is it's faulty depending on your house. Least thats the gist I was led to believe.
I'm recommend getting a PCI WiFi card. If you have a spare PCIE slot, get a x4 card if your budget will allow. I had that exact card OP. Threw it into my little sister's PC. Works fine under Linux and has decent connectivity.

Powerline adapters only work in houses with grounded electrical wiring. This is a (relatively) recent thing (about 25 years), so you have to make sure your house supports that. Powerline adapters work by sending signals over your already existing wiring by sending signals on it. Electrical power itself doesn't affect the signal because they are on different frequencies. Make sure the powerline adapers use an encryption key (most do nowadays) to make sure your neighbors can't access your connection too. Last but not least, you can't use powerline adapters on extention cords.
