and isnt a router only for when using wired connections? Its not possible and wouldnt make a difference if i used a wired connection

Router = "routs" every IP for every computer. Modem = changes signals to make it possible to decode for the computer (MOdulator DEModulator). Comcast has somekind of wizardry because it has both Modem and Router on its modem.
