I know that was a huge turnoff, but GMK ABS is still pretty good, though I might not pick it up if its over 70 bucks

Let's settle this once and for all.
Is the Pok3r the best 60% keyboard on the market?
>>
>>56485286
yes
>>
>>56485286
no.
The v60 comes out in more switches
>>
>>56485366
It doesn't have an aluminum frame or nice keycaps though. The design of it is worse too.
>>
>>56485451
aluminum frames are memes
plastic is obviously better for sound
also keycaps don't matter because most people change them

She's great. We didn't get around to getting a shoe lace so the top could be tied shut but it's a little tight with the full keyboard in. If I get back into mechanical keyboards maybe she'll help me make one with a zipper, since I'm not good with sowing
>>
>>56485286
No.

The keycaps are laser-etched and the metal case is spray painted. And it's not fully programmable either. The pok3r is a fucking joke that disguises itself as a good deal. If you want a good 60℅, get one with a plastic case and abs caps, then upgrade both to your liking with something that isn't shit.
>>
>>56488524
Not on the market, and not that great of a deal either.
>>
>>56486161
>>56486325

The mechanism itself doesn't really make noise on linear/tactile switches, but without a rubber damper the plastic on plastic clack from bottoming out the key travel certainly will. O-rings or dampened switches alleviate that problem.

I've been using the same Dell membrane keyboard for about 11 years. I play FPS video games for fun. An incredulous buddy of mine is recommending I check out the Varmilo VB87M available on massdrop for about $125 US.

Is this a decent entry level buy? How the hell do I know if I will even like mechanical keyboards? I mean, I get that they are more precise than membranes, but is that right for me? I wish I could try some out.
>>
>>56488540
You can get Korean customs with those features.

I don't really see how a keyboard that makes a seeking point out of pbt keycaps and a metal case is a good deal when you'll eventually want to upgrade both because the legends fade and the paint on the case has chipped.
>>
>>56488600
*selling point, fucking swipe keyboard

>The best tactile switch that's affordable would be a white Alps

Whites are clicky, though. It's the black Alps that are tactile and non-clicky. Also plentiful in the form of Dell bigfoot keyboards.
>>
>>56488591

A fruity backlit bluetooth TKL is a bit of a drastic change from of 104-key wired Dell.

Do you not have any computer shops nearby? They'll probably have some on display that you can try.

Also Gatreon switches > Cherry switches.
>>
>>56489019
Thanks, yeah it seems like a pretty drastic change. My numpad and USB wire do not bother me in the least. I asked him if there is one available without the backlighting and he says there is, so at least there's that. Also this one I'm looking at is the Gateron clear variant, if that helps.

I'm going to try to find a mechanical keyboard to play around with at a local shop to see if I even like the feeling. I can afford just about any keyboard, I just don't want to make the wrong choice.

I get that its imitating the style of keyboards sold in japan, but n oone ever types with direct input of kana, i've asked, so why not just bind your right super key as conversion, and just get that special keykap?
Personally I'd only even use it for entering and exiting IME mode, it feels more convenient to use shift or capslock for katakana.
>>
>As much as people want to talk crap on Razer's "knockoff" switches, they have always felt the most consistant to me. Owned 3 keyboards and not a single issues. I love the k70 rgb but this inconsistency is making me think twice. Going to wait to rma mine until hopefully this issue is fixed.

How can you tell if keycaps fit on your keyboard? I am looking at a keyboard online, but I want to change the keycaps out and I don't know how to make sure that they're cheaply replaceable. Can I just take the keycaps off of my old cheapo rubber dome?

Any decent 61 key Nordic keyboards?
>>
>>56490554
cherry mx and its clones are by far the most common, other than that you need to make sure the layout is compatible (shouldn't be a problem if you get a standard ANSI layout) and you shouldn't mix keycaps of different profiles
>>
>>56490671
https://corus-kb.com/en/pok3r/28-poker-3-pbt-iso-nordic-alu-casing-black-version.html

but consider switching to ANSI, especially if you do programming

And that's it for now. Next step is to decide on the switches (I'm thinking either cherry green or white, depending what I'll be using it for) and to design a mounting plate in with some CAD software and have it cut.

Or you can just monitor the threads 24/7, or just post a picture of my work and hope that I see it (I probably will, I'm here quite often).

I guess I could set up a trip, I only lurk the rest of /g/ anyway (apart from the /bst/, which is tripfag central anyway). And I'm easily identified by my images when I post here anyway, so I guess I can use that as an excuse to not feel totally obnoxious (or even more obnoxious).

I'll take care of that once I'm home in a few hours, just look out for something containing "seiden"

Cheers

yes, but you have to effectively reverse-engineer how the controller handles signals from each key/matrix.

that's very difficult and time consuming, and you still have to wire up the teensy/arduino and setup the firmware.

if it's AT/XT/PS2/ADB I'd go for it, otherwise might not be worth all this hassle.

I also got a wordpress blog, but wordpress wants money from me for a custom domain name. I don't feel a whole lot like giving them money if I could just set up a server myself, but on the other hand the cost of that is probably lower than the annual energy bill for having a mac mini run as a server 24/7, so I have a feeling that I'll just end up going with wordpress.

By free ftp server I actually meant a free hosting that allows to also bind a domain.

for example:
http://www.bplaced.net/

When hosting your own server you need to know things about server security (can be researched with "hardening debian" for example), handling ddos attacks (can be handled by cloudflare) and much more, so the easier way is to make someone else deal with all this for free.

Its an Eldorado Cnc lathe, It looks like pic related. I've done some pretty stupid stuff with it like bending a 0.75 inch thick steel axial with an aluminum cutting bit. That was quite possible by proudest achievement. My second was I had to shorten down a steel spacer by an eighth of an inch, this time I used a cobalt bit. I've got blues and as far as they go they do feel cheap, though I don't know where he got the sandy feel from. They could be more tactile, but that would mean cherry needs to spend more money making the switch better

Why not go for a full metal keyboard instead of just a metal top plate with the rest being cheap plastic.
Why not get a keyboard with dye-sublimated PBT caps so they never wear out, unlike your corsair which will look like pic related in two weeks
Why not get a keyboard with high quality switches like Alps or buckling spring
Why not go for a keyboard that has good quality RGB lighting instead of the faulty LEDs that corsair uses

Sup /mkg/, looking to buy a budget Cherry MX Red or similar switch board that needs to be full size around $100. I do a ton of typing for work and need something with little to no resistance. Looking at these but having some issues with each...

Rosewill RK-9000V2 RE - Looks like exactly what I want but apparently the USB connection is really shitty. Anyone that's used one please chime in.

SteelSeries 6Gv2 - Tiny right shift and weirdly shaped enter key.

CM Storm QuickFire Ultimate - Absolutely ugly typeface and red backlighting.

I would say go for a ducky one since it has PBT caps, but your options are very limited if you want red switches

How do they differ exactly? It just seems like less resistance would be better for typing fast.

It has a tactile bump, if I get that shouldn't I just go with brown then since it's so much more readily available?

>>

with cherry switches the tactile bump is really soft, you can't feel it at all if you are going to fast so a clicky switch would be good. No other switches like black alps have a much nice tactile bump and aren't clicky, but I don't care

They sell double-shot PBT caps for LED back lighting, or if you want you can get dye-sub PBT caps which is what I perfer.
If you don't want to buy a keyboard then buy another set of caps then get this
https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1677
>>
>>56502690
The strongest selling points of the pok3r in comparison to other 60% keyboards is the metal case and the PBT keycaps. The problem is that they cheaped out on both of those in order to keep the price tag low. The paint on the case chips easily, and the legends on the keycaps will fade with use, also quite quickly. So you'll end up getting aftermarket keycaps anyway (or having ugly keycaps) and maybe replacing the case. You could just get a cheaper 60% instead and get some nice dyesubbed PBT keycaps right from the start. And maybe an aftermarket case if you're not satisfied with the stock one.

What games would I run into where double tapping is a problem, because I'm finally getting myself a mechanical keyboard but I can't figure out between blue, brown, black, and red since tactile is bad for gaming supposedly even though I thought it was suppose to be good since you know when to release your finger from the key?
>>
So I got an old Blue Alps keyboard and I sort of want to desolder all the switches from the board and put them in an AEK case. How feasible is this project?
Also if I go through with it I may try to switch out the keycaps for something that makes since for a non mac computer, but I don't know if the AEK uses a layout that's compatable with most keycaps.
>>
>>56503679
well if you play games were you have to press a single key repeatably in quick secession , but in precise intervals it might be a problem.
>>
>>56485702
I have blues at home and browns at work. The blue is more fun, but the brown will still do you well. And you might want to check out the clear if the brown isn't tactile enough for you.
>>
>>56504279
So I shouldn't have a problem with blues as long as I'm not double tapping every three seconds?
>>
>>56504363
Unless an accidental double tap causes you to instantly lose or if you have baby fingers then it shouldn't be a problem.

It's doable. The PCB needs to support alps switches and you have to be careful during keycap removal since the tabs retaining the slider are more fragile on old complicated alps. Finding alps caps is kind of a bitch, too.
