Anyone on /g/ use Slackware ?
>>56484406
Yeah, what of it?
>>56484421
Is it worth the effort ?
>>56484451
It's not much effort, really. Slackbuilds and slaptget make the work trivial if you so desire. But you can strip things down to the bare doors and tables if you like and that takes some patience.
It depends on what you want. If you want arguably the most minimalist linux server or desktop possible with near perfect stability, then yes. If you just want a hip distro that few people use, there are easier options.
>>56484406
No, if I wanted something that bare I'd just use
FreeBSD which has pkg and SOME linux compatibility. As a desktop, Debian, Mint, or Fedora.
>>56484406
Used it for years. I don't use it any more. It's not as good as it used to be. It is less stable. Also, it now uses pulseaudio. Ewwww.
>>56484406
No because i don't spend all my time with compiling
>>56484406
considered it for a beadrock linux build.
ended up not goin through with it, too much hassle.
How does it compare to Gentoo?
Yes, I use an atypical system configuration that no binary distro caters to. I use Slackware on my laptop because it allows me to set once and forget.
I've used slackware for years. Once you get used to the package management it's smooth sailing. Super stable while still being reasonably up to date (not like debian..)
my pentium III right next to me is booting it as we shitpost. logging in to my serial terminal with it.
Very stable, I used it over 10 years ago for a long uptime required application, and it was absolutely perfect for it.
No idea now. Probably nothing has changed. maybe everything has changed.

Soooo, are you saying slackware > debian ???? really ????
I'd never have guessed.
Might have another look.
