I have overtighted a screw in my pcie slot, what now? thinking of getting a nut to tight it and keep it from getting loose.
Use a blowtorch to lessen the pressure

I think he means he fucked the screw hole and now shit is loose.

Congratulations pleb, you cross threaded the screw and stripped the thread. Unless you have a tapping bit and wrench handy to run in a new thread, you're fucked.
Just bust it with your nut

re-tapping the hole wouldn't do shit because it's already expanded beyond what it's supposed to be, you moron.

this, plus apply a little bit of wd40 at the same time to help loosen it up

Obviously it would be tapped with a larger diameter.
Regardless, a nut on a longer screw is fine.
Just use a bigger screw and force it in.

If you want a nut ask you Mom. She gives them out easy.

lold
OP here, I just tried to use a bigger screw, no luck. that shit is completely fucked. Going with the nut and longer screw combo. as for the blowtorch idea, I don't have one that is easily accessible at this time

Wait, please tell me how fucking stupid are you that you tried to tighten the screw until you stripped it? All you need is it to hold in place, if you want it to be permanent use some fucking locktight.
Did you build your comp? if so how did you manage to not fuck your mobo when screwing it in?
