Pretty much this.
I back up all of my files on Google Drive, use Chrome, listen to music through Google Play, and I also use Lastpass to store all my passwords.

I don't think /g/ likes me very much.

I'm not going to store extremely personal files on a gdrive server am I? Store your important documents on your own shit and use cloud services to open not important documents in other places.

they all suck and non respect your privacy.

I'm not too sure what you're asking, but what I meant was that I upload my music to Google Play Music, then listen to it through its nifty desktop app GPMDP.

It's useful since I like having my music and playlists sync from my PC and phone.

Hired mall cops cracking anything ever. Hue.

But seriously, lifetime pedos are not all morons. They know that "The Cloud" is not safe, so they don't use it.

I use OneDrive. It doesn't really matter which one you use, just use whichever one is A) best supported on your platform and B) gives you the most free space. I got 15 GB free on OneDrive, so that's what I stuck to.

Onedrive

For the money onedrive is the best value since it bundles office 365 + onedrive for less than google or dropbox charger.
>>
>>56413418
>dropbox
>>great interface

you forgot

>gets hacked
>>
>>56413434
I forgot about that, I havent used dropbox since my free 50gb ran out.

I've been using office 365 family plan instead,
I have 5 accounts (each one gets office + onedrive) for the same price as I paid for just my single onedrive subscription.

Things like sharing files and editing permissions are needlessly tucked away in onedrive, you can't stop or pause the upload/download of your files either.
it has it's pros and cons, but given the price I am happy with it.

Can't you just save important files inside a compressed 7z file with password?

Or they can somehow know what's inside as well?
>>
>>56413514
>Or they can somehow know what's inside as well?

i want to say no, they don't know what's inside it even with a password

but with google who knows. i just assume they can do anything and everything tBh

>>

Is NextCloud any good ?
>>
>>56413514
what do you mean by important ?
illegal like CP ? That should never be on any external server.

pirated movies and other dumb shit like that they don't care about.
At worst dropbox won't let you share a pirated movie with your friend but no one has been busted for that shit
>>
>>56412992

Oh no the corporations have access to my desktop wallpapers and my uni assignments. Whatever shall I do
>>
>>56413698
There was owncloud
Then for a reason they forked owncloud to nextcloud and now everyone moved to nextcloud
Basically, choose nextcloud
>>
>>56412943
GDrive because I have a school account with unlimited storage. Can't beat it. I encrypt anything I don't want Google to see before sending it. There's not a lot I want to back up that I mind if someone pokes about in.
>>
>>56413208
Of course no one would reply.
>>
>>56413923
this, exactly this.
>>
>>56413208
The data is stored at your house/computer as opposed to Google's.

That said, I just use Google's stuff anyways because I am a lame person with no ambition, no big secrets and rely on safety in numbers.
>>
I pay for extra space on GDrive, but just wish their desktop client support were better.

>>
>>56414031
well that, and who wants to maintain yet another device on their network? I had a FreeNAS box for almost a year, and I don't want to have to deal with it. "Honey, why is it not streaming?" "Husband, why can't I access the backup drive?" "Ricky, where are all our photos of our daughter." Fuck woman, figure it out yourself.
>>
tfw only 7.9gb total space of dropbox
>>
>>56412943
I use OneDrive because I have an Office 365 account. It backs up camera photos off my phone.

>On noes, the l33t h4x04 known as 4chan may find the pictures of my horse covered in mud. Harrumph!
>>
>>56414013
Steal your IP, or, in this case, turn around and accuse you of copyright infringement.
>>
>>56412943
For syncing/cross device parity I use iCloud mostly because I use apple stuff, it just werks, and is reasonably secure.

For everything else, I use Box because it's accessible through standard protocols. No questionable proprietary desktop clients or fatass laggy shit webapps necessary, just connect with a good WebDAV client.

I'll be switching over to a personally maintained VPS or home server some time in the near future, though. Web-based file storage isn't exactly rocket science, so if you have the skills and even a little bit of cash on hand there's not much point in compromising privacy and flexibility by using someone else's hosting.
>>
>>56414091
So, you never access Google for other services? Because I'm sure they already have my IP. And I don't keep anything I've stolen backed up. Why would I? If my computer dies, I can easily torrent it again.

?_?
>>
>>56414111
intellectual property
>>
>>56414091
Why would I be dumb enough to upload something that I've stolen or pirated to google or any other cloud service? There's FTP, torrents, Megaupload and a plethora of other ways to share and get those kind of things.
>>
>use owncloud to 'sync' files between muh vps and all my shit
>use plex for streaming shit
>use iredmail for personal email, have a gmail for spam and for signing up for things
>everything runs on my own servers
it's bretty gud m80's

>>56412943
iCloud

They're the only one that hasn't ratted out the users to NSA or FBI yet.

Dropbox is the worst. It even has the co-architect of the current paranoid security regine, Condoleeza Rice, on it's board of directors.

does owncloud have desktop clients for linux/mac/windows?
>>
>>56414144
It's also dead simple to set up a plex and/or subsonic server on an old PC laying around the house if you want a nicer experience than what FTP/mega/etc provide
>>
>>56414193
yes
their android client is pretty good, it's got autoupload for pictures and videos and lets you set a pin to access your server

Gdrive.
I back up pretty much everything there except videos.
Documents, all of my pictures and anime reaction images, and lately I've even been backing up my loli doujins there so I can access them on my phone.

I mean what the fuck is Google gonna do about it? Arrest me? Fuck no they aren't.

Stop being paranoid /g/.

That would eat up my bandwidth per person who wants to download thing, which can be an issue for those on limited bandwidth... which is almost the entire US. Mega and the cloud wouldn't: just the initial upload would get consumed. Torrent would lesson it by making other people supply bandwidth.
>>
>>56414272
Depends on your needs/situation I guess. My connection's upload speed outstrips my download speed by 2x or more and my ISP enforces no limits unless they see you serving several TB of data per month or some ridiculous shit like that.
>>
>>56414229
>When you upload, submit, store, send or receive content to or through our Services, you give Google (and those we work with) a worldwide license to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works (such as those resulting from translations, adaptations or other changes we make so that your content works better with our Services), communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute such content.
>This license continues even if you stop using our Services
>>
>>56414327
Mine, starting this month, is enforcing a 1TB limit. While I'm not really at risk of going over that number, if I were to deploy your strategy it would have a chance to if it were a large enough file shared enough times.
>>
>>56414342
tbqh, they will probably try to buy you off or give you a jerb at least (way more cheaper) before suing you
>>
