I wanna pare down and organize my data so I can wipe one of my drives and reinstall windows on it just because spring cleaning.

Can I move most program files to another directory and just move them back and still have them work, or will I have to actually re-install most things? I don't use much other than Firefox, Steam, or vidya gaems.

Also, I have a ton of porn and reaction images and other images all just saved to my downloads folder without any organization because I just don't care whether I live or die. But it's getting hard to find what I want. What's a good image cataloguing system? Would it be worth it to get a copy of whatever the various ___boorus run to keep on my local machine just for sifting through my reaction images by tags?

Cd/dvd drives aren't used as much these days, and you can copy most things over on another computer if you really need to. If the connection on the back of your cd drive looks the same as the one on your hard drive you shouldn't have any problem attaching it.

Balance the speeds so you have slightly positive internal pressure to make fan filters work better.

Depends if you have CDs to use. Otherwise it's pretty optional nowadays.
Also if it's pretty old it will have a IDE connector instead of a SATA one but you can convert IDE to SATA with an adapter if you really need to. Or you can just buy a new drive, it's not expensive at all.

Do a search on google how to remove cryptolockers or ransomware. I can't post links because 4chins thinks it's spam. Sometimes you can take advantage of their shitty coding and it can be broken.

It's not guaranteed though so you will probably have to end up formatting or paying. Make backups next time.

I'm not sure what the fuck happened but a few months ago I unlocked my android bootloader (it was allowed) and rooted my phone and installed a custom rom and everything was great.

A few days ago I realised supersu was gone and obviously this was strange so I decided to reinstall it from the play store except it kept crashing when I tried to open it so I checked to see if my phone was still rooted which it wasn't and then I checked my phone info by doing the *#*#(numbers) in the dialler and it turned out that my bootloader was now locked and it stated it couldn't be unlocked anymore (bootloader unlock allowed: no, but originally it was yes when I was first rooting). I haven't installed any stock updates or anything so what the fuck happened?

my Sapphire R7 270X stopped outputting any video, no POST, login, nothing...Went through very minimal customer support to find out its months out of warranty. Thinking heating issue, but wut do? Is there any way to load it into the second pci slot and try and get any diagnostic info from it somehow? Looking to try and fix it hopefully, but i dont have a lot of hope out for it. Wish this happened sooner , but... wouldn't be surprised if most of their cards die after this amount of time if they werent doa, or have several driver related issues.

All signs point to the PSU as far as you describe it. Checking for shorts is a good idea, though...at best that points you to RMA the board, rather than replacing just the PSU, what I wouldn't do though is keep powering that PSU over and over again to try for a successful boot.

I'm finding this to be hard to Google, because there are so many specific parts:

I have a server with two NICs. I want to dedicate one of them to be connected to my VPN 24/7, on a separate VLAN from my main network (I have a managed switch), and then have a Docker container containing Transmission to use that connection.

Any ideas?

I've been getting the "RPC unavailable" error when booting up my PC lately. I doesn't even make it past the login screen, it just gives me the error and keeps rebooting indefinitely, even in safe mode.

Both times I booted up my PC today I got this error, and I had to boot Windows Repair from an external USB, open cmd, run Regedit through cmd, open explorer THROUGH Regedit, and replace the "C:\Windows\System32\config\SYSTEM" file with the one from the "RegBack" folder for it to boot properly.

Anybody knows what this is all about? How I can stop this from happening again? I don't wanna keep doing this procedure for the rest of my life.

You are kind of blowing this out of proportion. There are plenty of interrupts in the browser and on pages themselves. Wouldn't stress yourself out over it. There may be a way, but it may not last or do all you want it to do, and here you are angry again about security and damages...

Can an old hard drive cause my input lag?
Two years ago i started to have input latency with my mice. and some usb stuff transferred at 10mbps.
I tried everything, ram, psu, other mices, other ports, and no luck.
Now a week ago I finally after 7 years upgraded my computer, to a i7 6700, 16gb ram yatta yatta.
the thing is, I STILL HAVE MOUSE INPUT LAG. and the USB 3.0 stuff are transferring at 50mbps with my external hard drive. in which i remember with a friend's computer it went 100mbps.
I changed everything but the harddrive, it's an old WD250GB that i had since 2007, that's where i install the OS on.
A friend in a month will give me back a 500gb that I borrowed him and will try install OS there.
The detail of how my mouse lag is:
Move slow, I can make a 180º move. Move really fast, it will only move 10º.
this problem with 2 years and buying a new pc and still have this problem kinda made me want to hang myself. But will wait for a response.
I have a 4 year old 700w PSU, but tried with a 650w bronze and still was the same.
My question it's again, can somehow a HDD do that?
it's weird, since it's like it's not giving the proper power to the south bridge or something I don't know

demo:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NC3cbdUSog8 it's not just delay, it's not receiving the whole movement

can't say for sure, but I wouldn't really think of it as a remote session into the computer. at best you can hope to expect to use the SteamHelper Browser or whatever it is called that drives the client and the overlay, and that is trash, if it does work I wouldn't hold your breath over streaming quality. Plex and xmbc, probally not.

Eh, unless you have been living off of some destitute Port or wireless speed for a while , probally not. HELP HELP HELP

I got a strange question /g/, for which I can't find an answer online.

I can't find my own network on the list. I live in an apartment complex and so, I got a bunch of different networks listed, just not my own.
The strange thing is, it's only my new laptop that seems to be blind, my other 2 laptops, my phone, my roommates xbox, my tablet, etc. etc. all find the network with 100% success rate and connect without problems.
All in all I've had maybe a 10% success rate of finding the network on this laptop.

Some other info:
>The laptop is an Asus RoG model.
>My computer is the closest to the router (I was told this might be a problem, but it doesn't get better if I move it further away).
>I've been experimenting with different frequencies, but to no avail.

>Will it last less because they squeezed all this juice out of it?
Technically speaking, yes. But it will still outlast your need of the card. Being scared of components having a shorter lifespan when overclocked is a meme.
Even if you overclock it more aggressively yourself, it'll still outlast your need of the card.
As an example, let's say it has an expected lifespan of ~10 years before it starts to go bad. You overclock the shit out of it, and now it might last 9.5 years instead.
Will you still be using the same graphics card 9.5 years from now ? Fuck no, you'll probably have swapped that thing out at least twice by then.

>Is EVGA a good company like Sapphire ?
They're good, but expensive. I personally wouldn't recommend EVGA unless you either really like the style of their coolers, or unless you're going to water cool it.

I don't have quite that many, but I do have some VMs running.
One runs openSUSE Leap. This is my home server, running off my Windows 10 workstation/gayming machine. It runs owncloud, a webserver (LEMP), and a few other simple things, nothing particularly demanding. It has some network shares mounted to interact with files on the workstation.

Another one is a minimal Ubuntu installation. It runs a webserver (also LEMP) for testing purposes before I push things to my actual site.
Then there's a second minimal Ubuntu installation. This one also runs a webserver, though this one is using LAMP. Also for testing purposes.
I also have two Debian Stable VMs running with LAMP and LEMP respectively, to see whether Debian's old ass packages fuck anything up. For the record, I've found several compatibility issues with various things here.

All of these run in Hyper-V on the workstation, the testing ones I have cloned to my laptop as well. Though only the openSUSE VM is running 24/7.

Then there's my VPS which I use to host my IRC client and a bot.
>>
>>56419171
So it's likely a lot of people are just using several VMs for something like web development or personal hosting?

What else could you do with them?
>>
>>56419199
Something like that, yeah.
VMs are just generally very useful for hosting things, in corporate environments too.
People might also use them to run thin clients, for example you could have a bunch of very low powered computers in an office just connecting to a server doing the heavy lifting.
>>

I'm going to be setting up a Kodi/Plex box soon. Is there any way to offload the video encoding to a networked computer that has better video hardware so I can keep the box low-spec?
>>
>>56419199
They're also hella useful locally. There's security in isolation. Try looking up the reasons people use Qubes. Also snapshots are super nice for testing things and reverting the changes instantly without wasting any time or unnecessary storage space. VMs are much easier to transfer between devices, or bring back from storage. You can also set up a VM to act as a firewall/isolated VPN and tunnel connections though it for security, or practice deploying networking features by testing them on networked VMs. And you can try out a bunch of OSes and break them till they work. Pretty much anything you might think about doing if you had a dozen extra laptops/PIs lying around, and then some.

how about a power cord extension with a usb plug and then use the short usb cable for charging?

I have an untuched ISO of Win7 from April 2015.

Can i just install that and then just disable Windows update? Will i be botnet free this way?
Can Win7 somehow install that telemetry and botnet shit when Windows update is diabled?
>>
>>56419648
lol, that's actually kinda genius.

Thanks anon.
>>
>>56419614
I'd cap it at 3-4 feet tops, and look for a good brand like anker. If they use quality components there's less resistance in the cable. They also sell kits with different lengths, so you can switch to a shorter one if you're really in a hurry. Short of buying aand testing cables individually thats about the best you can do.

Would it be possible to use a PCIe video recording card to only display the captured video in a window (without actually saving it)?
>>
>>56419633
The first option is a bit too ezpensive here but I'm saving both recomendaciones, thanks.
>>
>>56419652
You'll just end up as part of a Russian botnet instead.
>>
>>56419672
Would USB 3.1 be a safer bet perhaps?
>>
>>56419677
you mean a capture card? typically, yes, many video players such as VLC can connect to capture cards and display them without saving the stream
>>
>>56419781
Yeah, that's what I meant. Thanks.
>>
>>56419677
Yes, OBS can do it.
>>
>>56419652
It really doesn't matter when you get the ISO from, microsoft hasn't changed them since SP1, aside from a small unimportant hotfix. You want security updates, just opt out of telemetry ones, then in October you can just start downloading security rollups manually.

Just add 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 in resolv.conf?
And comment the old name space?

I'd just use networkmanager. But whatever works for your distro.

PDFs can't be reflowed on an ereader (or at least I've never seen it). So you will end up having to zoom in to read comfortably. It's pretty annoying to have to be panning left and right, especially because of the refresh rate of ereaders.
>>
>>56420016
I'm guessing converting the pdf to amazon format completely fucks over the book's structure too?
That sucks. I guess I have to stick with a regular tablet
>>
>>56419981
Your phone does PDF better than any of the six-inch readers. An LCD or OLED tablet works pretty well. e-ink is too slow for stuff you'd always be panning around.

When I look for ram I always see round numbers (2x4GB, 2x8GB, 1x4GB, 1x16GB, etc).
Can I get away with cost if I do
3x4GB or
1x8GB + 1x4GB to get 12GB instead of 16?

Will I not be able to use their full potential this way?
I think that you have to install them on the same color sockets on the motherboard too if you have for example 2 sticks, or maybe I am mistaken on that one.
>>
>>56420045
Depends on what's in it. If it's just text, you might get decent results. But in general I've seen some pretty fucked up formatting from trying it myself. Use calibre and try out a conversion yourself, then at least you'd know. However, you're better off with a large tablet.
>>
>>56420074
You're better off with matched pairs. You can do your own thing, I ran 1.5gb of ram on my laptop for ages, it's very possible that you'd see performance degradation but I don't know the specifics.
>>
>>56420089
Thanks senpai
>>
>>56420117
I guess that's why we don't have 12GB.. They could still do 2x6GB but it doesn't seem as common.
I know you will say, it is just RAM. But I am trying to be smart and build a budget PC for some specific stuff.

>>
>>56420195
I am still researching on RAM (value RAM[no heatcase] is about the same price as heatsink ones), case, GPU (Do I really need a 970 or get a 960, if it plays Witcher 3 I am good. I will mainly use Adobe Premiere so GPU is not the 1st thing required on the build), motherboard (if I can find something with firewire will be nice) and some other issues, keyboard..

So it is ongoing.

Is there an adapter for this SSD?
mz-ntd1280/000

I need it to fit an mSATA port so that I can connect it to my Maximus Gene V mPCIe combo thing.

I'm so confused by all these specifications and shit. I found this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/M-2-NGFF-SSD-to-Mini-PCI-E-mSATA-Adapter-Card-Replacement-Converter-Wholesale-/311426925853?hash=item48827dc51d:g:XywAAOSwUV9WpyJR

But when I read this part:
>About Mini PCIe SSD interface standard:

I become dizzy and want to puke.
>>
>>56420236
>firewire
Good luck, it's pretty much dead and doesn't do the speed that USB 3.0 does anyway. If you're that desperate you can grab a pci card.
>>
>>56420279
I'd probably just buy a PCIe SSD if you have the option. Even if that adapter works, it looks like it's going to cause your ssd to stick up in the air. It's not clear what the technical ramifications would be either.
>>
>>56420308
ah right, I forgot to compare the speed with USB 3 ! That's why firewire ports disappeared. If it is faster I am good.
Hell the mobo I picked now has even USB 3.1 which seems sweet.

>>
>>56420376
I have the SSD from my Vaio Pro 13 which died, which is why I want to stick it in my desktop PC. The best option seem to be to get an adapter so I can stick it in the mPCIe combo thing which my mainboard has.
>>
does lag and stutter happen because of drops or just low fps in general. Say ur playing gta v and get 144+ fps suddenly explosion and it goes 70-80. Should u have lag? Cause i do. Maybe its cause i torrented it or my card has a problem.

Could I use the HDMI of my GPU for my main monitor and connect a 2nd one to the HDMI of the onboard graphics chip?
Is it completely disconnected when I install a GPU on the motherboard?
>>
>>56420723
I've done it before, it worked. There was some lag dragging between monitors, but it's not a big deal.
>>
>>56420700
Android AV is young and underdeveloped. Plus there's only so much you can do with closed source anyway. Pretty much if you aren't getting it from a trusted market, you don't know.
>>
>>56420723
It depends on whether your specific motherboard happens to support running the iGPU concurrently.
