Is 12GB the ideal amount of RAM?
>>
>>56410800
It depends on what you're doing. If you're a professional shitposter, 2 GB is more than enough.
>>
No, the ideal amount of ram is:
Phone: 128 GB
Camera: 512 GB
PC: 32 GB
>>
8GB: good
12GB: retarded because you need 3 ram sticks
16GB: meme
>>
I've got 32gb
I hardly ever use it all but it's nice to have
I also only paid $100 for all of it and it's all ecc

use whatever you think you need. 8gb is good enough but with how much chrome bloats everything you might need 16 if you like to leave a fuckload of pages open in the background
>>
Desktop: 16 GiB to 32 GiB

16GB is the optimum amount so 32GB would allow you to virtualize 2 16GB systems which would be plenty for any workstation.

4GB is enough actually, unless you're a kid who wants to play trendy games or someone who virtualises a lot of shit.
8GB is enough for majority of people.
16GB is enough for current gen gamers.

>>
>>56411236
You realise if you're doing something on one screen, you aren't focused at all on what's happening on the other? You're actively NOT watching whatever you think you are on the second screen. And even if you register that and "watch" it, it's going to slow down your attention on the primary screen. Unless, of course, you're doing absolutely nothing of importance or any task which doesn't require thinking.
>>
>>56411279
I bet you can learn advanced abstract algebra or Riemannian geometry while watching TV, with ease
>>
>>56411316
>You realise if you're doing something on one screen, you aren't focused at all on what's happening on the other?
No fucking shit. It's there for background noise, I watch it off and on and believe it or not I'm able to turn my head to the other monitor should something catch my attention.
>You're actively NOT watching whatever you think you are on the second screen
I never claimed otherwise.
>And even if you register that and "watch" it, it's going to slow down your attention on the primary screen
If I'm able to get shit done while still "watching" TV, why the hell shouldn't I? Oh that's right, you have no reason other than you thinking everyone's got the same simpleton mind that you do.

>>56411324
Well obviously if I'm learning something new I'm going to pause and focus on the learning. I never said you should watch TV while doing literally everything and anything. But to not when you're able to, that's just silly.
>>
>>56410800
You can never have too much RAM.
>>
>>56411372
What do you need background noise for? Unless you're trying to keep yourself awake.
>>
>>56411407
I prefer having background noise, always have. Plus here and there something catches my attention and I watch for a few moments, makes everything far less monotonous.
>>
>>56411407
>not stimulating your second brain half
Enjoy being retarded then.
>>
>>56411372
>background "noise" is only achievable by using a separate monitor which plays visual media
You can achieve all that by simply opening a song, or you know, opening the movie in the background and just switching to it when you want to continue watching

4x2gb
4x4gb
4x8gb

there are not many sticks in 3 or 6 gb formats

>>
PC: 16-32GB
Preferably have half of it as a RAM Drive so you can mount shit in it. SSDs are fast. But they aren't RAM-fast.
Or if you game, that 16 is basically about to become the new "recommended" for smooth running.

Laptop: 8-16GB
You'll probably only need 8 in this. Unless you are a gamhurr with your epic Alienwank.
But mind you, if you do media work, can't hurt. Slap a 16GB in there, RAM Drive it up for speed scratch space in PS, or speedy temp for video editing.

Phones and Tablets: 2, No more than 4, really.
4GB is absolutely fine in these situations.
Having any more will just be a drain on battery life.
I'd personally prefer 4 since I use my Tablet for multitasking work pretty much 75% of the time. (drawing with an image reference open, editing JS with browser view open, or a script with interpreter view open, etc.)

Router: 1gig if pre-made shit. 4 or more if you have your own custom-built router.
Having a custom-built router is a great thing.
You can install adblockers for shitty hosts (or all if you are that way)
You can block malware.
Do realtime virus scans, data leak scans.
You can proxy your whole connection very easily, or specific hosts.
You can cache the whole DNS locally (which is where the memory really comes in)
Or you can just manually cache DNS names you care about and blacklist everything else. (whitelisting is preferred to blacklisting, if you want to block shit, "you know what you want, you don't know what you don't want", -Halo from Doom Nukem)
>>
>>56411316
>this idiot thinks full focus constantly is a good thing.
You can only give full focus for 50-60 odd minutes before your brain is, CHEMICALLY PROVABLE, fatigued.
Regular minor distractions is a Good Thing.

Juggling multiple tasks that require different regions of the brain is a great way for your brain to rest and clear shit out.

Tasks that are heavily logical and creative are a good example of tasks requiring hugely different regions of the brain. (with minor crossover, depending on the task)

All of those recent multitasking studies saying otherwise have been debunked already as being horribly shitty in scientific rigour, not to mention picking some of the worst people for it, people still in fucking puberty. (you don't leave that shit till early 20s)
These peoples brains are in constant flux of synapses being produced and cross-talking and causing problems because of the information rich worlds we live in. It literally is too much for the brain, it is information overload.

Meanwhile people past those ages have zero problems doing loads of major and minor tasks together. (unless it is some doped up retard, but they aren't people)

Intel i5 6500 + GTX 1060 here
I have 8 GB of RAM, they're more than enough for any activity imo. Even the most advanced games barely use more than 6 GB RAM anyways.
Remember: more RAM doesn't improve performance. The important thing is just to have enough for what you need. 8 GB is the standard now and it will be the standard for a long time.
Refer to Logical Increments for more info, they know what they write about.

depends on your workflow, I work in statistics and my laptop has 64gb, sometimes even that falls short.

of course, that is, if you are not a NEET, for shitposting 4gb is fine.
