What stuff do you install or configure after rooting your phone?

Something less obvious?
>>
>>56410668

adaway, greenify, underclock, and I uninstall everything not critical to my being able to communicate with my phone or interface with the included hardware (camera)
>>

>>
>>56410810

>>
>>56410781

totally unnecessary placebo apps (if you already have a decent ROM)

Also: Adaway
>>
>Xposed + YouTube Background module
>iOS emojis as system-wide default (Android blobs suck)
>LiveBoot (just for fun)
>>
>>56410844
I underclock my phone, I had no idea there was even an app that said it would underclock for you

greenify is probably placebo but I'm too lazy to uninstall it and just disable apps through settings since that takes a lot more steps
>>
>>56410668
adaway, iFont

xposed framework : xuimod (list animations), gravitybox (if your rom doesn't include some features), flat style colored bars, MinMinguard, Youtube Background Playback.

optional : greenify/amplify (doesn't do much imo but why not)
>>
What makes you trust xposed?
It has the potential to be as bad or worse than gapps.

It is not something that is hard to install or use, I just don't see why it should be trusted.
The install method is not secure, any updates could introduce more malicious features. It just isn't secure.
Why would you trust it?

Adblocking and everything I do on a digitalocean VPS running squid/openbsd as a firewall.

You can import adblock origin lists directly to squid and nuke all that cancer before it even touches your device, that way your shitty cell browser isn't lagging to death trying to block hundreds of trackers and ads per page

>Paying 150$+ for a phone ever

You're basically wasting your money buying hardware you don't need, it's like paying 2000$ for a pc you'll only use for word.
>>
>>56414582
If you're doing that, at least deny Internet connectivity permissions using Privacy guard or a firewall.
>>
>>56419250
You pay 150$ every 1/2 years and experience lags or you buy a better device that (if you take care of it) runs smooth for 3+ years.
>>
>>56419286
I have owned a 100$ moto e for 2 years now and it's more than 97% of the population needs in a smartphone, no lag and no unnecessary bullshit.

osmand as of a few days ago is actually viable (recently added search-by-name and limited information function), although I also use transportr in conjunction to get public transport routes. Along with integration with something like yelp, it would be a perfectly viable replacement. I especially like how you can download the data in advance so you don't use data when checking where you are and where you're going.
>>
>>56419318
This desu. Protip: if you do anything on your phone that makes it lag (assuming proper maintenance and care), you shouldn't be doing it on a phone in the first place.
>>
>>56415381

The major issues are minor scratches I made on the screen because I am a massive retard.
I dropped various things off it over the years, small mirror, tweezers, small torch, USB sticks, coins.
There are a few spots on the screen where, if the stylus or finger goes over, the pointer location spazzes out about 2mm on screen.

>rooting?
Maybe. Probably one day.
But I don't really feel the need to.

I usually multi-task on lots of things.
Drawing with a browser and separate image editor or viewer open for reference. All 3 open at once, browser and viewer always-on-top and dragged to a corner that drawing app doesn't really use, or use much.
Coding with browser / project open, and (another) browser with help files and sites for shitposting.
Shitposting across 6 browsers at once.
The multitasking on Shamdung is the biggest attraction I had over pretty much anything else.

Biggest reason I got this was the above and to be able to VNC to my PC and basically use it as a graphics tablet, or coding on PC remotely for projects I can't realistically do on tablet.
Comfy bed drawing and coding the best.
Gets 30-40FPS on average, good enough for drawing.
Wrote a bunch of hotkeys behind shift+` for anchoring useful features and access to multi-hotkeys, or keys not easy to emulate with stylus.
Stuff like cut, copy, paste, delete, left middle right xb1 xb2 mouse presses and holds, highlight line, highlight line and cut, duplicate line and so on.
I press shift+` and another key within a few seconds or it just cancels the hotkey. Any valid hotkey will also cancel the timer so I can chain multiple things together quickly. Pretty proud of that little thing.

What google apps are safe to remove? And what modules do I need to install on Xposed as alternatives?
>>
Mega dumb question, how do I root my phone? I tried using an All-In-One for the HTC One M8 off the XDA forums. It unlocks my bootloader, but after I install the root package, I'm not rooted?

Xprivacy, adaway, kernel adiutor, moc locations, app ops, system app remover, flashify, betterbatterystates/batterymon.

This is true.

I installed "idoneapps" and "FontFix".

idoneapps was solely to get my phone with unlimited data to use hotspot without buying a plan for it. FontFix to change the font to something just to be a different autist.

What's the best ROM for an LG nexus 5?
>>
>>56435644

I'm using stock with ElementalX kernel, it does the job.

Why flash a custom kernel exactly? Better battery life and such? I just got this and don't really want google breathing down my neck. Maybe a custom ROM would push it into the distance a bit. Am I wrong for thinking this?

I'm relatively new to nexus/android devices but I kept following threads praising ElementalX over the stock kernel. I've been using nexus 5 with stock everything for like a month then I decided to try out ElementalX and the battery life seems improved. Along EX I use Greenify + Amplify and AppOps (Xposed module).

As for Google apps I've disabled almost all and replaced them with F-Droid alternatives. Not sure about a custom rom, it did not cross my mind to flash one, yet.
