You have to leave your internet off (modem unplugged) for a while and hope someone gets assigned your IP

it isn't easy unless you pay for the ability to switch IPs

they are hardwired to the modem's internal MAC. the whole 'turn it off and on again' thing is deprecated in 2016. comcast will let you trade in your modem free if you tell them you need a new one due to DoS or something.
