No, they are just greedy. If you download a movie you may show it to other people or god forbid copy it.

I love how we've gotten to a point where downloading music in formats that are easily usable on anything is the norm now but for fuck's sake you'd better not be able to download a fucking movie or a book that we can't control and make you watch/read on approved devices in approved apps.

Sadly, you're right. Because the mainstream audience is actually dumb enough to buy a ticket for a movie only to see a certain actor.
We are talking about the same audience who puts down 10 extra quids just for 3d, which 90% of the time does not add anything special to the movie.

Services like Netflix and Hulu are a push in the right direction. They both produce content that is available for unlimited streaming under a low cost monthly service.

Some of the content they produce is pretty good, and they don't rely on big names or cgi. I hate Orange Is The New Black with a passion but look at the hype it generated?
