Every time I hear about a technology company justifying H1B's as "Americans aren't skilled enough" I roll my eyes and take a deep breath and think back to all the immigration issues that happen surrounding agriculture and construction.

It's about the companies bottom dollar and how they can get the same quality of labor for cheaper. It's not that Americans aren't skilled, it's that they won't tale a pay cut to do so.

The average H1B worker makes 13,000 dollars less then their American counterpart. Google has 9280 H1B's.

Those 9280 workers are saving google 120 million dollars a year.

I agree with you but at the same time the US has required India open its markets to american made products.

The US had recently brought to the WTO a complaint against Indian legislation of local content requirements for solar panels.

As a developing country India's manufacturing and electronics fabrication is in its infancy and needs some degree of insulation from already established competitors in the West and Japan, SK, &c.

The US can leverage its advantage in selling high-tech manufactured goods but India cannot use its competitive advantage in cheap labor. That's not only against the interest of free trade but there's an inherent unfairness in that trade dynamic.

Pajeet here. Getting my green card soon. I moved to the UK but it's just not competitive enough. All the Pajeets here are disillusioned into believing that there's artificial scarcity so they compete against each other. Most Pajeets in continental Europe are non-existent; the few that have jobs in countries like Netherlands and Germany basically have job security and are comfy enough not to reconsider. Let me just humble all Pajeets out there for the uninitiated; the majority, if not all Pajeets are economic migrants. They don't leave their countries for safety or security, but wealth. Just like, I, and many people in my family moved to the UK many years ago to seek better jobs. Now we're heading to the United States.
