I used to use 4.7.2 hardened-gnu but have since switched to the regular gentoo patchset kernels. I still run a custom configuration though

how does one a)notice that the kernel they are using is any different and b)change their kernel?

im newbie to linuxs, isnt the kernel the thing that does everything under the hood meaning you dont notice it? would you even know if you were using version 3.x instead of 4.x?
