Need a new laptop for college. Stuck between the ThinkPad 13 and the IdeaPad 510S. Specs are similar (i5, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD) except the IdeaPad has a 1080p screen and I can get it for £380, whereas with the ThinkPad 13 I can only get a 720p screen with £530.
I know the ThinkPad series is one of the best, with top grade design and keyboards.
Is the ThinkPad quality really worth it here?
Thinkpads are overpriced because of the high quality build - you're meant to buy them second hand to get the value out of it.
Since you won't be dropping your laptop and care for it, I'd go for the one with the better stats.
Having said that...

In the UK I'd go for a customizable Sager/Clevo and remove Windows 10 liscence to save ~£100 and get better stats.
Maybe find a way to get a VAT refund/order from USA/get your Eastern European friend to buy you one from there. Laptops are fucking overpriced on any website ending in .co.uk

Customisation freedom and freeDOS option (good luck getting a PC in Currys without W10).
The build quality is not ~worse~ than any other brand, so it's a good choice imo.

why such an old model?
