is "hurr systemd is eevuulll" meme dead yet? I saw only a few incidents of fullretard last month. Remember when "systemd is eeeviiill u guise the general" threads were here all day erry day like Trump generals in /pol/? Like year or two ago?

If any of the sperglords who went full retard, do tell did any of your dumbfuck doomday scenarios happen. I'm curious.

It's just a vocal minority hippies that can't stand systemd because it won't work in their shitty BSD toys

i prefer human readable shell scripts in /etc/rc.d as in slackware or the old school debian in /etc/init.d with symlinks in the runlevel directories /etc/rcS.d /etc/rc0.d /etc/rc1.d /etc/rc2.d /etc/rc3.d /etc/rc4.d /etc/rc5.d /etc/rc6.d for customized run level configurations

I'm on my phone so I don't have my massive copypasta of all the reasons why systemd is a problem. It generally breaks more often, and when it does all your logs get raped. The devs close bug reports if they only affect shit for server use because all they care about is desktops. The doomsday scenarios did happen because we said they were lying when they said they wouldn't consume udev, and they were. I really want my copypasta.

I don't like systemd as much as I like OpenRC, but I've been using systemd for several months now. I figure it's important that I learn it.

Reminder to sage, hide and report shill threads.

Anti-systemd threads/posts are PAID MICROSOFT SHILL POSTS.

Ignore them, report them, contact 4chan admins and tell them Microsoft is fucking over /g/ and something has to be done.

Microsoft likes systemd because it's killing Linux. Why would they shill against it? Why are you samefagging your own thread, Lennart?
>>

Because Microsoft hates systemd, right?

Nice try, Pajeet.

Sage, hide and report.
>>

Nice try, Microsoft. Now get the fuck out of /g/, your postings are against the rules.

Funny how that's the only argument you people can come up with. Why are you guys so eager to replace the entirety of the Gnu coreutils with an init system?

The article is written that those were sudden decisions while all those agree with what was proposed on the original announcement at
http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/systemd.html
yet distros decided to adopt it.
All other init systems are outdated and until something better comes systemd will be the primary one.

>All other init systems are outdated and until something better comes systemd will be the primary one.
What if "outdated" (older) options better than systemd already exist?

By that logic, I will roll own my own shitty overextended init and call everybody else's "outdated" and "unworthy"

of course; but no need to guess, you can try using logic and reason too, if you're not retarded

Those who are against SystemD obviously don't have a career in supporting enterprise Linux environments.

But they are not so this hypothesis is irrelevant.

Do it. Write your points and if they rational and the code you provide seems fine maybe becomes the new mainstream init system. Reminder that /g/ will shit on it though.

yes, PA uses only ALSA for drivers for the simple reason that drivers can only use the ALSA interface in linux; there are no alternatives, you idiot

>>
>>56392897
Mine crashed the xserver and prevented it from restarting. In fairness, the system was still responding at this point. Then avahi interrupted the shutdown so I had to do a hard reboot.
>>
>>56393162
>Mine crashed the xserver
Avahi is a headless service and Xorg doesn't even interface with it. I don't believe you even know what was happening at that point.
>>
>>56393215
Well thanks for the info Lennart. I'll be sure to remember it's not your fault the next time it happens.
>>
>>56390106
pottering? sounds a lot like HITLER!
>>
>>56393337
From what I can tell a service didn't shut down promptly and you saw a countdown.

If I'm wrong I apologize but it sounds like you saw a service not properly shutting down and then drew unrelated conclusions.
>>
>>56393417
btw next time that happens you can force kill the process using magic sysrq keys.

While holding hold alt+prtsc press e, if that doesn't kill the service then hold alt+prtsc and press i.

e sends sigterm to all processes except 1 and i sends sigkill. Then systemd should continue and poweroff normally.
>>
>>56393162
>crashed the xserver
literally shit for brain
>>
Sure. A system developed by guys working for Redhat would never ever contain backdoors or privilege escalation "errors". Systemd was designed to be a simpler, faster boot system. Therefore it must be smaller, and not touch a large number of apis/boot services right? And surely they wouldn't attempt to make systemd a dependency for major packages to guarantee that most systems would be affected by their exploits? Right guys? Right? The NSA would totally bypass the opportunity such a large codebase to hide some malicious code in.
>>
>>56395293
>http://suckless.org/sucks/systemd
The problem isn't systemd. The problem is the security model of linux... oh there is no such thing.
>>

>Ctrl+Alt+Del 8 times to reboot

>>
>>56390774
Those who support systemd and claim to have a career supporting enterprise Linux environments:
A) Work for RedHat
B) Aren't actually sys admins
C) Don't know what the fuck they're doing.

Considering the company I'm a part of is a fortune 50 and my team (7FTE, 2 contractors) support about 3000 RHEL 6 (and a handful of RHEL 5) systems and the corporate policy makers and technical leadership are actively looking to avoid RHEL 7 because of systemd... Well, it sure seems like plenty of people with history actually support Linux (and Unix, since we support HP-UX, AIX, and Solaris env as well) don't much care for it.

RC scripts are readable and well documented. Plain text logging is partially recoverable if there's corruption. Centralized logging failing doesn't mean all logs are lost if the machine crashes.
Systemd has no place on servers. Especially enterprise ones (unless you're RedHat, and only then because no one trusts a company that doesn't dog food)
