I have been using Ubuntu (w xfce) for over a decade. Convince me to consider a new distro and why. I won't switch my interface under any circumstances.

Why should I try to convince you.
Ubuntu is okay.
Just uninstall all proprietary software, like the "Flash" plugin, and you're golden.

Because I have an extra old ass computer. Wouldn't mind fucking around with another linux.
you know it son
install gentoo
>>56388922
Gentoo is non-free.

>>56388929
Gentoo takes care of this.

Yet Gentoo compromises the user with filthy non-free software on their default rescue/live CD, that is recommended in the installation manual.
That means if you're following even only the 1st page of Gentoo's manual, you're going to run non-free software.

Source?

You know most of what Ubuntu does is just ripped from Debian. If you are willing to take a step out of the padded room Ubuntu made and see the real power of a core Linux distro then try Debian.
I admit it took me a week or two to make the shift, but I am so glad I did.

Install via chroot then u fgt
Don't OP, I've been using gentoo as my main OS since 2002 and just recently turned to Ubuntu 16.04. I feel more free to focus on my work rather than playing sysadmin.
>>56390683
That's besides the point.
Gentoo is non-free by default.
>>56389892
Just look at /lib/firmware/ on the offical CD.
It contains numerous non-free firmware files.
>>56390942
Does that really matter when Gentoo is a meta distro and you can make it completely free if you want.

It matters to the FSF.
