I found that OpenVPN + UFW for killswitch capabilities was better than any VPN client.

Mullvad had a few second delay before actually killing my connection while with UFW it's instantiation.

Crazy how 1s and 0s can become illegal when arranged in just the right order. I miss the internet before e-commerce took hold. The general rule seems to be that you're only risking things by download recent shit (don't download Game of Thrones right after it airs, for instance). Sometimes shit gets weird though.

The rare case where someone gets bought to court for piracy have always been over Hollywood movies and popular music; anime dubbers (let alone the Japs who don't give a fuck about us baka gaijin) don't go after you like the MPAA or RIAA.

I download anime every week (though not as much as your typical /a/non) and nothing has ever come of it (while I'm at it old Disney TV shows are safe too, go watch Recess or something). Other than Bob's Burgers the only other thing I ever got a letter for was Old World Blues around its release time (the guy who sent the letter was named Osama Hussain, hilariously enough).

Supposedly Japan has actually been cracking down within their country (a friend of mine just came back after a year there), so it's probably not so riskless there.
