Are HMDs still a thing?
I'm not looking for 3d glasses, I don't want something to attach to my smartphone, I don't need it to have 3D capabilities, I don't wanna accidentally buy something that only works when paired with a special Nvidia 120Hz monitor and the newest graphics card, I just want glasses that plug into a DVI or HDMI out and you wear them and it's like looking at a giant movie screen or something. I don't wanna accidentally buy anything outdated or poor quality or a thing that's not actually a headset but just a stereoscope you put your phone in.
Anyone here know anything? Pic unrelated, I'm on my laptop.

Just get a good VR headset and use it as a normal HMD, development in video glasses is shit and there's nothing good.

I should mention I was hoping to use them for movies and gaming and a budget alternative for having a 7 year-old PC that probably can't accommodate an oculus rift anyway. If I'm being a dummy for thinking the two are in any way comparable, let me know I guess

Do you think that'd work well if my build includes a sapphire r9 280 and an amd phenom II?

You don't have to do 3D on them, just two images of the same thing. There's lots of different software to make them do different things.
Else just buy a cheap mobile VR headset and a 6 inch 1080p HDMI screen and plug the screen into the heatset like you would a phone.

would you happen to have any suggestions?
I'm looking at these two pages
https://www.amazon.com/LOPOO-Virtual-Reality-Android-Glasses/dp/B01EJJNXPG/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1472758581&sr=8-7&keywords=hmd

they look like exactly what I'm looking for, and also like sketchy-ass bootleg PopStation-tier electronics. Is this what you had in mind?

my first guess would be fantastic color palette

Don't get any Android build in if you want to use them with a PC.

Is that the original Spyro from PS1 rendered in HD?
More?

I saved a bunch from a /v/ thread a while back, I only have a few saved to this, but they're also the only pics I have saved.

Good to know. That rules out the LOPOO thing. It's impossible to look stuff up because I really don't want VR or gyro sensors or even for them to be wireless. I'm worried I'm gonna get something with too much latency to be useful.

bump because now I'm looking at these
