ChromeOS

If you want to actually get a job, Windows.
If you want to have fun and not deal with any major hassle, Linux.
Which distribution of Linux? up to you as it won't make a difference in your actual ability as a programmer, just your workflow
oh and if you're a webdev hipster there's also OS X but unless you got $$$ for apple products it's usually out of the question

Right side is objectively better than the left.

This. Or OSX. *NIXes are IDEs in principle, created by programmers for programmers.
Windows are so bad in this they even adopted bash.

any recommended distro ?

>If you want to actually get a job, Windows.
Wrong. The most jobs are webdev jobs now.
And that means OS X or GNU/Linux.
Doing web on Windows is pain in the ass.
The only pro for doing it is that you can check your pages in Edge (if you are a coder). Nothing more.

Pick Fedora or CentOS. Stay away from DEB-based distros unless you know what are you doing.

Any popular Linux distro. I recommend Ubuntu if you're a beginner.

Arch is fun to play around with and i love its simplicity but honestly i just want stuff to work. i use Lubuntu personally

As anecdotal evidence, I rarely see Windows in job descriptions.
whats the deal with OS when programming? when you set it up (java or python or whatever) it is basically the same on different OSs
I sometimes jump from windows to linux (cuz of some libraries that are not available for win, but that happens rarely) and dont care what OS im on

Hell no. All backend is Linux, the only interesting thing you might get for Windows is game programming. But mobile is probably the fastest growing atm. If you want a job for sure go for Linux. Point and click monkies never last for long where I work.
