Friend of mine works in heavy industry.
He does not drops his phones, but the phone obviously, gets quite dirty at the end of the day.
He wants to buy a smartphone, so he can read emails and whatnot.
He could learn how to use it, that's no problem.
He is also used to small phones, and he wants to carry it all day, so a somewhat smaller phone is preferred.
So far here is what I found:
> CAT S60
+ Tough, small, durable, long lasting, good specs
- Very, very, very fucking expensive
There is a shortage in my country, or globally, I don't know.
Last I checked it was around ~575 USD. Now it's 780 USD.
It would be the perfect device, but it's very expensive.
At least insurance would be a must, which would further add to the price.
> iPhone SE ***
+ Affordable
+ Great battery life (iOS)
+ Simple as fuck (great for newbie people)
+ One of the best cameras on market (except G4/S7)
- 16gb can cause problems later, 64gb is too expensive
- No replaceable battery
> Xperia Z5 Compact
+ Affordable
+ Water proof
- It's fucking slippery glass all around (I have one)
- Cases? All of them sucks ass. There is no good case for this phone.
> Galaxy S5
+ Water / dust proof
+ Good size
+ Still good specs
- Old, no updates anymore
- Specs are a bit outdated

And yeah while the S60 is durable, some grease or some shit can go into it, and can kill the phone.
So it's not like it's bomb-proof or anything, it's just a bit sturdy. Also I am sure if it would get dropped from a ladder, it would get some nasty cracks and scratches.

The *** (which applies to most phones other than the S60) is "slap a tempered glass and case on it".
Obviously an otterbox is NOT an option, it's way too huge, way too thick to be carried around. I was thinking about some Spigen case for the SE.
bump. no one ever had to recommend a phone for a field like this?
(S7 is out of question because it's very, very expensive considering how easily it could break. Same for HTC 10, it's a neat device, but also very expensive.)
What's the story behind CAT S60? Never heard of it...

Basically the first CAT brand (some other company makes it but it uses the Caterpillar name) that is rugged AND well-specced.
And it has a thermal-imaging camera.
So it's really a first in the market.
But it's more expensive now (due to shortage) than any other device.
I talked with them btw, the current setup looks like this:
> Husband, the heavy industry guy
iPhone SE 64gb + case + glass
> Wife, administrator
Galaxy S7 Edge + case + glass
Just get a lifeproof case for the iphone. Pretty sure thats the phone setup the police officers in my country use.
