Probably something like weather modeling, or whatever else a university research lab wants to run on it.
A surprising amount of places have hardware to rent out. A library in my old neighborhood had a 4 socket Xeon system with a bunch of Teslas in it. I guess they got money to spend and thought they'd try to make a return on it.

a few years ago HP had a program where you could ssh into massively parallel Itanium and Xeon boxes for FREE and test drive them. does anything like this exist today?
