The 200 and 300 series were pretty desperate.
Competitively priced, sure, but they are definitely lagging behind. They had no big cards to rival nvidia's.
The big cards are important, as those are the ones that people read about.
They read about the nvidia 1080 then buy a GT 730.

The problem is Nvidia stopped doing dual GPU's after the hilarious failure that was the TitanZ and the tech press is so anti multiGPU it's hilarious. (Despite half those fuckers running SLI rigs on their own personal systems.)
