smartphone newfag here: how intensive are mobile video players and how well can certain phones handle video/players. I want to be able to watch anime upscaled without it looking like shit since there aren't really "good" phones with 720p screens anymore. I know on PC you can use settings so intense that it takes a beast machine to watch video without dropping frames. I just want to watch 720p anime upscaled to 1080p without it looking like ass. also codec/subtitle/container/audio support, is it any good on mobile? can phones play h265, 20-bit and such?

I have only owned a cheap windows phone so I don't know much. thinking of upgrading to the RN3P this year since it seems to be really good and it also has good battery life unlike many phones.

Yes, and it's a problem. Not only is Google shoving bloat down your phone, but so is Samsung. You can't delete Chrome/Internet - so you end up with 3 browsers. You can't delete Google Drive/Dropbox - so you end up with 3cloud storage apps (including Syncthing or whatever you use). This is becoming a major problem.

The golden era for Samsung was S3 - S6 and Note 2 - Note 4. Now look at this shit.

I don't like Motorola/LG/Sony/HTC because they tend to be overpriced for their hardware and I'd hate spending 2 years with a mediocre device that fucks with my head. Like buying a usable second hand device that shouldn't bother you in theory, but it does.

2. Voids your warranty on Day 1. They simply don't respect root users...

manufacturer refurbished in 9/10 condition. I've been buying refurb phones for years and never had issues.

Unfortunately I like what samsung does and don't want to leave AMOLED.

So it's either this refurb note 4 or a new Nexus 5x which is similarly specced but worse battery, no AMOLED, no microsd, no replaceable battery. I feel like it's a lot of compromises just to be guaranteed 7.0

AMOLED looks like a plasma with dynamic contrast boosted and unnatural colors that dies too quick. surely a proper IPS looks better?
>>
>>56346389
Like I said, I seriously love the look of AMOLED and have been a huge supporter ever since Samsung started using them. I get that it's not for everyone, but having true blacks especially at night is great.

That all said, Nexus 5x is a new device and assuming it doesn't fall prey to the usual LG "quality" from the G4 I'm seriously considering it.

I love real blacks and real colors. I'm a big plasma fan. problem is I have only seen OLED looking really good on high-end TVs. the ones on phones I have seen look off. but then I'm judging based on store demo units. It's a tech worth advancing though if you can get it to look like a plasma without it being huge, heavy, and power hungry.

Their are plenty of iOS music player apps that allow users to edit audio profiles. You clearly are just talking down a platform you know nothing about.

I was talking about audio quality anyway. But leave it to lagdroid faggots to respond to claims that weren't even made to attempt to deflect attention away from the real issue: Androids awful audiophile experience.

Then why are they behind everyone else in terms of stereo crosstalk, volume, distortion, and frequency response. Look at GSMarena's audio tests, they're not good, same with PhoneArena's headphone out volume test. They're less than half as loud as most Android devices. I'm talking the Z5, Z5c, Z3, X, etc. Almost all the flagship Galaxys, LGs, and HTC phones that compete with them have much better audio. Pretty much every phone with Lollipop is receiving at least quarterly security updates, though if you want to have monthly or even faster security updates then Nexus are literally the only way to go if you don't want custom ROM's
There's also quite some hardened ROM's for the Nexus line maintained by competent companies
Apple is pretty slow to patch bugs and CVE's, they eventually get them but usually after 6+ months
OnePlus is competent with updates, but they sometimes suffer from weird delays, though if you're willing to get a custom ROM then you will get better security than the Nexus phones

Anyways Sony phones seem to have poor volume, poor dynamic range, and distortion. You saying "Xperia phones have superb dacs" and that they "have market leading audio quality designed with audiophiles in mind" Is completely wrong. They most certainly don't use DACs from their $1500 audio devices since they cant even beat the generic Qualcomm DAC on a fucking LG G3.

Also I just want to say the GSMArena test for the V10 was done with the ESS Sabre DAC "Hi-Fi Audio" switched off so it would've most likely scored much better than that, same with PhoneArena's volume test, the test didn't kick the amp into high-gain mode which would've resulted in a higher volume reading.

The only thing that is midrange is the price desu. The specs are up there with all the flagships, and even better in some cases. The phone feels premium to use and to hold. Found this on my country's ebay, the buttons seem to be non-korean-oriented, which is interesting. Should I pick it up and do a mini review once it's here? Or is it a waste of dosh?

What's a good smartphone for around 300€ /spg/?
>>
what could you add to make the edge screen on S7E useful?
>>
>>56351646
Hell no. Anything midrange or flagship from Sony is pure shit right now. All shit except for the Z series.

Nothing to accommodate your need. Perhaps try z3 compact. I recommend mi5 but no band for you.
>>
>>56351646
you're better off buying a previous generation Z series
>>
>>56350741
Mate just wait for new not ' nexus'. Or op3.
>>
>>56350161
I like it.
>>

So I just found out that Solid Explorer is a fucking trial.
Are there any free file managers than have SFTP support?
ES is out of the question.
>>
>>56352529
xiaomi phones don't work on lte in the us, the galaxy phones aren't great.

get either the z3 or z5, the x compact is going to be fucking expensive
>>
>>56352632
galaxyphones have good cm support if you are worried about that.

z5 compact looks nice but has very very mixed reviews due to the 810 housefirememedragon.

Is anyone else hyped for the
Sony Xperia X Compact?

V10 user here. Been using it for nearly a year now and no bootloop. What the fuck do you guys do to your phones?
>>
I see that there's a stable release of CM13 for the Redmi Note 3. Has anyone used it? Is it buggy as shit?

>>
>>56352424
My absolute limit is 300, I won't be able to afford the new "not nexus" nor will i be willing to spend that much if I had it and the OP3 is a meme.

The last phone I bought was in 2014 and it was a nearly 2 year old refurbished flagship. It's only just now having an issue that's forcing me to get a new phone other wise I'd still be using it

Select prefer 3g like in pic related in the meanwhile, it might help.
But yeah International version with B4 should be better.

Should I get a case or folio for my Nexus 5X?

I have a z5 and it doesn't get too toasty.
>>
>>56353329
Not? I see mixed reviews on amazon for the z5 compact which I might get if the new nexus phones turn out to be utter shit.

Did you try the new PA rom out of curiousity?

no

Contemplating either the Z5 Compact or the new X Compact as well. What worries me most are reports of shattering glass on the Z5C.

Is the Galaxy S7 really the best phone now? I want to purchase the best phone on the market currently. Is it possible to install Nethunter on it?

Also, is the Edge just a gimmick?
>>
>>56353362
There are very few, far fewer than on the z3 compact (at least when I look at amazon reviews which tend to bitch hard when something goes wrong)

Hi, thinking of buying a wileyfox swift, but i haven't found any of you talking about it here. Is it a good idea, or should i go for something more well-known, like the moto G4? I'm looking for something low-budget, so it doesnt have to be perfect. I'm happy as long as it's decent to use in everyday life.

The Wileyfox Swift's battery is replaceable but you can't buy the battery anywhere, LOL.
>>
>>56350990
I dunno as it was my friends phone, and my friend forgot the brand he used on his S6, sorry. I'd personally go for a non matte protector, that's all I can say.
>>
>>56351225
It's not the resolution that's the problem. It's the display itself, arguably worse than the OnePlus One.

>>56352234
I'd say get it depending on the price if you really want it. I don't think /g/ can give much advice on flip phones.
>>
>>56352756
It's been stable for a while now, and no there are no major bugs. However, if you have a variant of the RN3 with the goodix Fingerprint sensor, that won't work. Otherwise its a great ROM, better than MIUI imo.
>>
>>56353272
Case

>>56353437
It depends on your definition of "best". I think the HTC 10 is better, save for lack of waterproofing. From what I've heard, the S7 tends to have memory management issues.
>>
>>56343362
Why do Iphones look like shit?
>>
>>56352706

I thought the 5x had heat issues?
>>
>>56348716
Not a bad phone if you're not a gamer. Games rev up the 616 chip and make it pretty warm. Flash CM on it and it's a quaint little affordable chinkphone with full 4g.

Not as good as RN3P for the price but what can you do.
>>
>>56347113
rn3p is cool too

battery life is glorious desu

pic related was at home on wifi (first day I had it, saturday, but I did run benchmarks, camera, video, games, so I wasn't really trying to save battery.
