How foolish would it be to upgrade my PC from 2010 to game on if I would primarily play through Steam Links?

Been playing on PS4 but miss that sweet PC performance and quality. But would using Steam Links just negate that?

Steam Link is just a dumb box you hook up to your TV to stream games from your PC. You still need a powerful PC to play the games you dingus.

Pretty sure he means that by using streaming a device the encoding lowers the quality on the output thus making high graphics settings pointless or something?

Exactly. Is it worth investing in a PC upgrade and primarily game through steam link or just stick with a PS4

I've never used a steam link personally but I'm willing to bet that for 1080p@60 the encoding isn't bad enough to negate high graphics settings but personally I'd prefer to just directly connect the computer to the tv/monitor

Using Steam is foolish.

Alternatively if you have a nvidia graphics card you can use gamestream to stream all of your games through your network or over the internet in up to 4k@60fps at up to 100mbps quality to any Android phone or computer in your house such as a laptop connected to a TV.

I use a hardwired Steam Link to play some games on my TV.

As long as you use the "beautiful" client quality setting and the Nvidia hardware encoding it's pretty swell. Quality is probably about 98% compared to just playing it on your PC and it's not noticeable when sitting ~5 feet from the TV. It has no problems maintaining a solid 60FPS.

Quality isn't an issue at all. Really, it's just input lag. According to the diagnostic overlay I get about ~21ms of display lag and ~7ms of input lag. Not unplayable, but being used to my 1ms monitor and KBM. I really only play racing games anyway on it.

Is display lag really noticeable Anon ? I have an old monitor so I don't know
