Anyone here with a Moto G4? Why does it feel like everything on the screen has been upscaled? It feels like a special reading or magnification mode has been turned on. The screen size is good but it's a complete waste with how oversized everything is. Is there a way to fix it? Can't seem to find anything related to it in settings except font size, which doesn't really fix the issue.

Thanks, I'll try that out eventually when I root this thing. Just got it today.
There wouldn't be any chance of being able to do it without rooting, is there?

don't know because i've always used custom roms anyway
even on recently purchased phones the first thing i do is rooting
The DPI on Motorola devices is enlarged, apparently because of compatibility with the "Moto" apps like Moto Voice.
Once you root it you can download a resolution changing app, or simply use a terminal command "wm density DPI", where DPI is your preferred DPI.
You don't even have to root it, if you install the "Android Debug Bridge" on your PC and enable "ADB commands" from the developer options. If you do this the command is
adb shell wm density DPI && adb reboot
I'm on a 2nd gen Moto X, and I not only changed my DPI, but I reduced the resolution for overall improved performance.
I run at about 768x1366 because I literally can't tell the difference with my shitty eyesight, but scrolling and overall interaction is noticeably smoother

I've heard some claims that doing so (doing it the root way, or not) causes people's camera apps to not work. Is this true?

There is on Nougat, it's in the developer settings. You'll have to wait, though, or just root like a sane person

I believe adb can change screen density. So some research.

I thought the enlarged DPI on the G4 felt kinda nice, but like other anons said root, change DPI, etc. Alternatively if you only have problems with the home screen and app drawer, download Nova Launcher, change what you need to from there.
