What is /g/'s favorite desktop environment?
No DE is best DE.

>>56330556
This. Also Plasma on my Linux laptop
>>56330521
MATE is the only acceptable.
>>56330565

Windpws 10 w/Ubuntu Bash
Mate
I am not devoted or anything so if I find another I will switch.
>>56330521
xfce with that whisker menu from xubuntu.
xfce and mate
gnome is for tablets, kde is disgusting and bloat, unity is hideous
>>56330755
This.
MATE. Budgie Is pretty good too
If you like to spend time personalizing your desktop like I do then you should look into some light WMs. They can be quite fun to tinker with and really give you some interesting possibilities
For those who need a DE that just works I personally started with MATE and only recently switched to XFCE. You can probably get a lot of the same control with their respective WMs as well.
I am tripping on acid and really want a hug. Like, fucking badly - it's a weird feeling.
GNOME3
>>56330840
Just go get your mom?
gnome 3
Openbox. Just openbox. No idea what lxde brings to the table.
>>56330521
The one that not (yet) became fully retarded. Equinox.
MATE. Comfy.
>>56330629
>acceptable
+1
>>56331024
Openbox is not de you nigger.
>>56330755
> shit cannot into custom font colors
> pleb-tier control center
Disgusting.
Using Ubuntu MATE and I like it a lot.
the only thing i don't like about xfce is the window placement. i don't know how this shit works and everything i've googled doesn't seem to work. some windows stay where i want them to stay, others resize and move around.
that's pretty much the only annoying thing about xfce. also screen tearing, but that's an easy fix.
>>56330896
>>56330957
my dudes, i use gnome on my desktop and osx on the laptop for that delicious keyboard driven workflow
>>56330537
This.
Also, Ratpoison mustard race.
>>56330521
explorer.exe
LXDE and LQTX when openSUSE fucking make it stable
>>56330521
No DE is best DE.
I roll my own keeping bloat to a minimum. What's the point of installing software if you aren't going to use it?
>>56330521
I tried to disable baloo searching crap, but KDE developers decided that: "There is no explicit “Enable/Disable” button any more. We would like to promote the use of searching and feel that Baloo should never get in the users way"
And you can't delete this crap from your machine.
So, I'm looking for decent DE whose developers are not morons
Cinnamon!
I used to hate it, but they fixed it up and right now I think it's the best GTK3 approximation of a classic desktop.
>>56331786
For some reason my frame rates would drop with cinnamon
You can tell it's burgerland time when nobody recommends KDE.
KDE Plasma
>>56331951
pretty good desu
can one move the panel to the top and have a mac like dock?
KDE Masterrace
Gnome 3.
comfy workflow
>>56331951
>that shitty font rendering
why are kde fags so shit
>>56330521
MATE.
MATE-GTK3 is looking fucking great, too. I use it on my desktop and it's the first GTK3 DE that hasn't burned my eyes into my skull. It's pretty much superior to MATE in every single way.
I'm waiting for it to hit upstream before I put it on my laptop though, wanna make sure they squash all the bugs.
>>56330521
Anyone knows how to let panels ALWAYS be covered by windows? when i hover the cursor over the side where the panel is, it pops up (its not set to hidden btw). Is this a bug on kde 4.14.2?
Aqua :^)
>>56330521
Windows 7
i3
Kool DE Masterrace
Lumina
>>56330521
Cinnamon
GNOME 3
KDE 5
Top 3
>>56330521
mate and xfce are both good
>>56330521
xfce is pretty much the only DE I use
I usually use i3 though
xfce in da house!
Gnome 3
People who say otherwise need to start living in the current century. You're as stubborn as windows users who can't be bothered to learn better ways of doing things.
>>56330521
explorer.exe
>>56331739
>So, I'm looking for decent DE whose developers are not morons
XFCE
>>56340842
Because the have none haha
>>56341565
well xfce is basically 95% perfect so they don't need to do much more anon
>>56341565
Better no devs than devs that actively shit everything up
Gnome 3 in fallback-mode.
Gnome
>>56331969
Yes, I prefer to keep it on the right though.
>>56343049
Could I get a link to that wallpaper?
>GNOME is resource heavy, requires at least 3 addons to be usable and as of now you need to install an unstable beta version just to get proper mouse settings
>KDE looks like fucking vista, and it's just as stable
>XFCE is fucking dead
>MATE doesn't have native compositing, but it does have a proper development cycle, has GTK3 support and is planned for wayland. Also very light weight and stable.

>KDE looks like fucking vista
That is not even the default theme to begin with, not to mention that it is not even an argument, anyway: https://www.kde-look.org/
There are more on the internet, quit being lazy.
>just as stable
idk, kde4 here and it has been p stable for me.
