Which DE is best DE?
Gnome
Cinnamon
>>56330410
Finder
they're honestly all pretty bad
try out openbox or i3, it really is a liberating experience
>>56330410
the BEST DE currently is Aqua/Quartz
on Linux Gnome is the winner, only wish they would polish it a lot more. everything on my linux desktop looks 100% magnified than my El Capitan desktop on the same resolution
>>56330410
I use KDE myself
>>56330466
If you either don't care about your setup looking like it came from the distant past, or like ricing. I like ricing, but I'm a loser that way.
>>56330410
Windows

DWM.
Unity

The K DE.

>le unity is shiet
>muh toaster ready DE
>normies get ooout
>>56330410
Mate
>>56330410
GNOME 3 W/wayland
Don't use a DE, because bloat
>>56332120
quality post 10/10, we need more shit like this on 4chan
>>56331834
>>56331941
Yes?... Can I help you?
DWM :^)
Fluxbox
Xfce for lightweight-ness. Unity for user friendliness.
Inb4 some autist says i3 or bspwm.
Either i3 or bspwm honestly.
i3, it's lightweight and easy as fuck to rice if you're into that
>>56333399
You're the one who has autism if you can't handle someone using their favorite DE. Just saying.
That said, i3 and bspwm.
Both are very efficient for any workflow. Layered windows are too messy.
I run KDE myself
>>56330410
I know gnome is better but i prefer KDE...
You know, old habbits die hard.
>>56330466
>i3
I thought it was going to be shit.
Is still kinda shit but not as shit as originally expected.
>tfw hidden animu wallpaper
>>56330410
I really want a Microsoft-like company to take over all Linux/GNU related projects and force everyone into a single DE. I know license does not allow it, but my soup is a bit bland, I need some salt.
I use i3. It's the best.
90% of what you do on your workstation will be increased by 10% efficiency with i3
BUT
The other 10% of things you do is decreased by 50% efficiency
Simple = better though
>not installing kali, calling your machine "kali" and loging as root using the a terminal emulator in gnome 3 for maximum l33tness.
It's like you're not even trying.
>>56334540
I mean why not
MATE
>OP asks for DE, faggots reply with WMs.
Xfce is best.
And I don't get why anyone would use i3 over openbox if they're into ricing.

these

openbox is teast bad. Pretty good with tint2.
>>56335374
I hate a panel at the top. So cluttery with windows maxed. Easier to ignore a panel at the bottom. Having the clock up at the upper right is better than the shutdown switch location in other de's though.
>>56330410
There isn't a best desktop environment, but you can have a favourite. Use whatever you like best. I like Unity.

No love for awesome?
>>56336134
awesome is a WM not a DE
I know it's a WM but openbox + tint2 is pretty neat. Once you get everything configured as you want it, you won't go back.
>>56336185
True, but it isn't the only window manager listed here
>>56330457
Finder is not a DE, WindowServer is.
No love for Qubes?
>>56330410
LiteStep
DWM.exe
This one.
Cinnamon without a doubt.
>>56330410
KDE/GNOME on a laptop.
OpenBox/DWM or its forks on a desktop
>>56330410
Plasma 5 / KDE
It's slick and surprisingly light.
Bspwm is just like i3 but with more tilling options and better mouse controls
>>56336455
>bloated battery guzzlers for laptop
>lightweight featureless shits for desktop
What about Gnome 3 with fallback mode?
>>56330410
KDE for newbs, i3 for linux efficiency.
>>56331834
i'm unironically eagerly awaiting unity 8
>>56330410
Windows 10
>>56330410
Which version of gnome is used in the ubuntu/gnome download Ive been using it for a year and honestly never cared enough to investigate.
>>56330410
I just finished watching all Mr. Robot episodes and now I see this thread. Jeez.
