I want to buy a new laptop, to do 1080p 50mbps editing and to play the latest games at 1080p 60fps.
So i read about the 1070, seems nice. But is it a good investment to put 1800€ in a laptop ?
I would buy a desktop pc if I could but I'm travelling for the next 6 months so it's not an option.
Any advices? Maybe some of you own a "gaming" laptop, does they last in time? Is a 970m enough?
Is there a big difference in performance between 900m and 1000 series?
Wait until you get back.
Just fucking wait. You'll appreicate it.
Also video gamez are not allowed here.
i need help

I put 1000€ into my laptop and I can still play everything that comes out.
Stop living in the past, yo.
My laptop just started overheating, and it's a general pleb model.
I can't imagine putting a 1079 in one would be a good idea.
1070 is gonna by the standard for highend gpus for next 3 years so prices wont go down or very slowly. If you pick good model you will probably sell your laptop without any problem for 1k bux.

Yes.
There's like 60% difference or so.
Because the new laptop GPUs have the same hardware as desktop cards. There's no difference anymore, the mobile line is dead.
Actually I recall reading that the 1070 in a laptop is few % more powerful than the desktop version, due to it having slightly more shaders, to compensate for the lower clocks.
I have 3 years old laptop with the 880m and it can still run everything at least on high with decent frame rates.
A desktop 1070 is going to be good enough for many years to come.

massively. 900m are gimped gm206 (gtx960) chips while the 1000 chips will just be underclocked gp104 (1070/1080).

The 1060 is only 10% faster than the 980M.
