It's summer though so I only did a few tests at that clockspeed.

For the most part I keep it at 4.4GHz daily.

Fallout 4 is a terrible example, it's like any other elder scrolls, in that it would rather have a single core @ 10ghz rather than 6 cores @ 5ghz. Gta 5 and bf4 on the other hand love more cores. My 5820k uses most of the 12 threads in either game, obviously not maxing them out but 10-30% usage.

>he's a tech illiterate and thinks higher res on such a small screen matters.

At a normal viewing distance of about 2-3 feet anything over 120PPI is going to require image scaling, which means all that extra screen real-estate is wasted, sure it looks sharper, but you're not really gaining much space because of the scaling you have to do in order to read anything.

36-46" 4k is the minimum to give you the same pixel density as a good quality 1440p 25-29" panel.

Congrats on falling for the meme though, there is a reason those 4k monitors are so cheap.

It is. Anything under 35" is pretty bad
>>
>>56322186
That's marketing nonsense trying to shill you into buying a larger version, because the price increases exponentially with the size, not the resolution. Higher pixel density is a good thing, you twit.
>>
>>56322098
As far as I'm aware LG doesn't make a 75" OLED panel

They have a curved 77" or a 65", and both of those are $7k+

and anything over 20-30ms is shit for fast paced games, so 55ms is terrible.

Turn on the image interpolation and you will easily go over 150ms

>>56322166
>>56322133
you're retarded and don't understand how resolution works then, literally there is ZERO point in getting a 4k monitor under 35" in size.
>>
>>56322230
>literally there is ZERO point in getting a 4k monitor under 35" in size.

Except for the fact that 4k at 27" looks very noticeably sharper and better than 1440p at 27". You're the retard in this. You were told repeatedly not to fall for the 1440p meme.

>>
>>56321701
It's really not
>>
>>56322267
It really is though?
>>
>>56322202
>Higher pixel density is a good thing

Yes but only up to a certain point, the reason it's more important on a cellphone or tablet is you hold them a LOT closer to your face, when you sit in front of a computer you SHOULD be about 2-3 feet back, at that distance anything over about 130PPI is going to be known as "retina", as in your eyes can't see the individual pixels.

So 4k at under 35" is just pretty dumb, 35" 4k is 125PPI which is already more dense than 1080p at anything over 18".
>>
>>56322266
the 77" model is over $15,000 i highly doubt you got that one.

>So 4k at under 35" is just pretty dumb,
Not in my experience, it's more than big enough for that resolution to unfold.
>which is already more dense than 1080p
1080p is not a benchmark. It's low-res compared to what's possible now and in the coming years. We'll be moving towards 8k in the foreseeable future.

I work at a computer store.

Ultrawide is a meme and sub 35" 4k is a meme.

1440p IPS or 1440p 144Hz is fine for now, but "upgrading" past 1440p without getting a REAL 4k at over 35" is just retarded.

There is no reason to hobble yourself with 4k on such a tiny screen, you're forcing yourself to do GUI scaling and all you're getting is a slightly sharper image out of it... wew fucking lad, what an upgrade.

I'd rather have a 40" 4k panel which gives me 4x20" 1080p windows on a single 40" panel with no bezel.

holy fucking shit this

anyone who buys a 4k panel at under 35", just tell them to open up 4 1080p windows at once and see how usable it is, the WHOLE fucking point of higher resolution is to be able to fit more information on a single screen, with 4k panels under 30" in size opening up that many windows is unusable because you can't read shit. On a 40" however it's like having 4 1080p monitors in 1.

need help guys. Should I get a Nitro rx480 4GB? I play at 1080p so 4gigs shouldn't be too bad right? Or should I just go for a 470?
Also: The store I buy from says they might get those 4GB Nitros in stock in a week or so, but I'm quite skeptical about that since as far as I know, 4GB nitro models don't even exist.

What content is mastered in 21:9?

Further, what can your 34" 21:9 3440x1440 do that a 40" 16:9 3840x2160 monitor couldnt?

It can display 21:9 content just fine if you want, 3440x1440 or 3840x1640.

You can always scale down with larger res, you can't scale up.

It's a meme because UHD content is already being produced and you'll have to downscale it to watch on your screen.
>>

any 4k content, pretty much any big AAA movie going forward from this point will release in 4k.

Also, with a 40" 4k you have identical pixel density to 34" 1440p ultrawide.

Meaning you can just run the 4k at 3440x1440p and it will be identical size and density as your ultrawide, just instead of a bezel you will have black bars and then the bezel.

IDK about you, but I can deal with having black bars.

and like I said, i'm waiting for a 100hz+ 40" 4k which is why I called you stupid for getting a 28" 60hz 4k.

Nvidia drops proper support for theor cards much sooner than amd. Amd drivers get better over time. Hence amd might just be a better bang for the buck

>>
>>56327225
Nvidia does not drop "proper support" for their cards earlier than AMD. In fact, AMD drops it earlier, but it doesn't really matter because both support the cards that are a couple of years old.

It only gets bad with cards that are older than ~5 years, eg AMD has very poor support for HD 5xxx series now.
>>
>>56327510
For 1080p 60hz, no. You do need to trash that 8350, it's slowing you down more than anything else.

Forgive me. But let me ask a stupid question. You guys talk a lot about computer hardware components, and how much better a newly released consumer GPU is compared to a year-old one. But you rarely talk about just exactly what component is responsible for the operations of specific activities on the computer. For example; what hardware component(s) are primarily responsible for ensuring the fastest OS startup from boot? The main hardware components are the CPU, GPU, RAM, and HD or SSD, yes? Well, what is responsible for what exactly? Is there a hard and fast rule? Can I request a nice neat breakdown of what component is responsible for specific tasks on a computer?

Can I get a breakdown something like this:
>move/copy files (HD/SSD 90%, RAM 10%, GPU 0%, CPU 0%)

>render large media files
>play super HQ video files
>record lossless screencasts without suffering frame skips
>software open/close
>computer boot/shutdown/sleep

People speak vaguely about what each component does. Like, someone will describe the CPU by saying it's the 'brain of the computer, responsible for abstract math processing'. But what the fuck does that mean in reality? Is a fast CPU crucial for rendering super HQ video, as number-crunching is important for displaying graphics? What computer task heavily relies on a good CPU? Can you get away with having a shit CPU but max out the other components? I just want to deconstruct this ambiguity and understand it better. Because currently, it just seems best to pool money into getting the best of each component because who can tell really what performance you're going to get from your computer if you got second-rate RAM.

Impossible.

Not really, the temp sensors could either be rounding up or down, the fan in my room is currently reading 21 and speccy is going between 20 and 21. I am running an adaptive voltage with a 4.7GHz oc the voltage is pretty low at idle.

lol. overclocking takes a day at most and if you're not a complete retard you'll never risk your shit dying before an upgrade cycle.

admit it, anon, you can't overclock because you're not sure how to do it and ACTUALLY DON'T know what bclk means

go back to facebook

>you don't know what this thing is that's why you're afraid of it
Not everyone on here is doing nothing but playing games. If you want high clock speeds, you buy a processor binned for it and validated. You have no guarantee of a stable overclock and it's difficult to test as thoroughly as Intel or AMD can and do.

Really it all depends on what you want or have money to spend. Yeah so my pc has 32GB of ram. Do I use it all? Hell no. But ram is cheap so I thought what the hell and loaded up on it. Do I play the latest games? Nope, so I don't need a 400 dollar graphics card. Long as your pc does what you need, leave it be.

Feels good man. That PC was a fucking PAIN to build. It had so many problems. Fuck.
>>
>>56345762
Youre completely fucking retarded if you actually think that there a risk to overclocking hardware. Hell, all the K processors are unlocked so people can buy custom coolers and OC them by at least 20% without ever even being forced to touch the voltage. There only starts to be risk as soon as you up voltages and OC a 3.5 base to something like 4.5+ with heatsink and fan instead of AiO. Hundreds if not thousands of people are running their CPU at higher clock. Are they not eligible for testing stuff or do you claim that all of them are just lucky? Unless you plan to use your hardware for 10 years there isnt a single reason to not OC shit.
>>
>>56346621
>Unless you plan to use your hardware for 10 years there isnt a single reason to not OC shit.
Except, you know, stability.

>>
>>56346652
Again, unless you pass a certain threshold there will never be stability issues. You can clock a fucking 6600k from 3.5 to 4.3 without touching the voltage and there will never be stability issues. I did it myself. Same with the 6700k that you can up from 4 to 4.6 without touching anything but the multiplier. Stability issues are only caused if the temp or voltage of the CPU are off, which wont be the case unless you run a fucking stock cooler. Custom fans and AiO system keep the CPU cool at all time so stability issues will never be a problem.

Hell, EVEN IF you run into stability issues you can just reset the CMOS and tune down the clock if you are too afraid of touching the voltage. You PC doesnt fucking blow up if you ended up OCing it too much. Thats not how fucking hardware works. Degradation only happens if you mistreat your hardware for a long duration, like run a Skylake CPU at avg 1.35V for a year or something. You processor doesnt lose half of its life span because it can at a higher clock for half an hour. Jesus fucking Christ.
>>
>>56346725
So why aren't people doing actual work overclocking their PCs?
>>
>>56346751
Because most
a) are tech illiterates (hell, I bet at least 90% of all PC users have never even touched their BIOS)
b) are too afraid of damaging something and AS SOON AS the get one black screen reset everything and never touch the BIOS again
c) make unreasonable purchases (for example dont even need the stock power)
d) buy hardware that doesnt even give them the ability to overclock (for 1151 socket you need a Z170 board for example)
e) They dont even know what overclocking is
>>
>>56346800
So it's because they're stupid and not because there are reasons overclocking is a bad idea?
>>
>>56346941
I wouldnt say that people who are uninformed or tech illiterates are stupid per se. How many people really build their own PC? How many actually care? Modern society got used to replacing completely functional hardware for new hardware that doesnt even provide heavily improved performance. You have people who buy a new phone every year. The same people probably do the same with laptops and hardly any of them buy hardware that CAN be overclocked.

Look at the specifications of this or you average prebuild
http://www.apple.com/de/imac/specs/

They dont even tell you what type of processor it is. No way in hell is that an unlocked one, so for most people its not even an option to overclock because their hardware doesnt allow it. Not even the $900 prebuilds on Newegg use unlocked CPUs. This group probably makes up for 90% of all consumers. Then you have 10% who build their own computer (probably only half that if not even less). Most of them are either too lazy to do research on simple shit like hardware or too scared of overclocking to actually do it (see blackscreen example, they just stop as soon as their PC crashed once and are happy about shit still booting). This group probably makes up for 9% of the people who build their own computer.

Then you have the 1% of PC users that actually OCs and builds a PC with OCing in mind. Its a fraction of the market, the fraction that keeps this whole 'muh gaymer' hardware market alive because they are the only ones who even have use for GAMING LABELED MAINBOARD and shit, because only they actually make use of the OCing features etc. The people who are actively endangering their hardware are the 0.1%. These people are specifically buying hardware for benchmarks. They buy entire AiO system just to get a 6600k from 3.5 to 4.9Ghz and knowingly blow up their shit because they planned on replacing their stuff within 12 months anyway. They are the only ones who push the hardware to its limit, no one else really does.

I haven't had to upgrade my system in so many fucking years, and it still handles everything thrown at it. What use would any human have for a CPU greater than a quad core overclocked to 3.8ghz?

When did technology stagnate?
