goddamnit why does it have to be so hard to find keycaps

even if you have a completely standard layout you'd still have to buy two full sets for a "custom" two-tone layout

$55 shipped for plain black keycaps, does include 1.75u shift
http://imsto.cn/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=112

enjoypbt, if i'm lucky a two-tone set with extras for like $60+

and i'd still have to modify the spacebar to fit my noppoo choc mini

The shift keys outside the last row are probably there just to avoid changing the original layout, I'd use a thumb shift key all the time if I had it.

K105 for dash makes sense, since - and = are a pain in the ass to reach, but the dash isn't uncommon. Better than a second \ on 105 (normal US layout)

There's an ignore-able amount of molding flash and there's a few screwy legends. (B has a small speck in the corner than can easily be mistaken for dust, U is scratched a tiny bit, worst is F4) My first set had really fucked up legends so look out for that. There was also this weird coating out of the box that came off with some dish soap. Comes with a key puller. Other than that, it's a great, thick PBT keyset with a nice texture.

i only had the chance to try out blue switches but i didn't really enjoyed the clicking sounds but enjoyed the feeling writing on it.

browns dont have this clicky sound but i read that if you bottom them out they still make a sound. Is it much louder than a usual keyboard? Also there are o-rings, do they make much of a difference?

Budget: 90-180 USD
Location: Switzerland
Switch: I think Clear or Blue would feel the best for me.
Layout: Don't really care. According to the sticky selection is better for ANSI, so ANSI I guess.
Form Factor: 100%
Backlight: I won't say no to backlighting but it's nothing I'd be willing to pay extra money for.
Previous/Current Keyboard: DasKeyboard Model S Professional.
I have to say, I was very satisfied with my current keyboard but the fact, that after three years six keys stopped working even though I treat my Keyboard like a newborn bugs me alot. Never had any dirt/food/drinks poured into it and clean it alot. Eh..

Hi /mkg/, I posted on /sqt/ and was recommended I come here

I need as quiet of a keyboard as I can possibly get, I don't live alone and can't have the noise from my keystrokes (i can do 120wpm, i'm sure most of you are fast too) ringing out all night.

I don''t game or anything, and I have no special use case. i just need a standard full sized keyboard with num lock and everything on it, just need it to be as quiet as can be.
Also, would prefer if the keys are not so hard to press as I have mild RSI/carpal tunnel

please make a recommendation to me /g/, i recently bought a silicone keyboard and while it is totally silent, it has horrible ghosting and also sometimes duplicates keystroke inputs, or misses them altogether
>>
>>56321456
so you know you have an rsi... yet you continue to do shit to make it worse and not heal...
>>
>>56321550
i stopped playing vidya, it made a huge difference

i also don't spend entire days on the PC any more, but you can't deny that a PC is needed for every day modern life

i've taken up movies and TV to compensate for no more vidya, i even had to stop playing guitar as much. i'm getting better, believe me i've made lifestyle adjustments.
but you can't just stop using a computer altogether - email, college, banking

anyways, got any recommendations, please?
>>
>>56321668
probably go for a linear switch and add o-rings under the key caps
>>
>>56321456
There are some commercial solutions out there:
Cherry MX Silent
Topre Type-S
Matias Quiet Click/Linear

Or you can pick almost any non clicky switch (stay away from blues and greens) and silence it some more yourself using stuff like o-rings, landing pads, silencing rings, clip-on dampeners...
Quietest keyboard I've experienced in person was a Topre with silencing rings - being only half mechanical probably helps with that.
>>
>>56318189
would most mechanical keyboards also suffer from this regardless of using PS/2?
>>
>>56312793

>>
>>56321855

So I've decided I still prefer rubber dome to all the Cherry MX switches, but rubber dome is still shit. Is Topre the way to go?

I'm probably leaning towards a Cooler Master Novatouch TLK because I dont think I can bring myself to spend almost £200 on a keyboard, but I'll probably have to buy key replacements for the CM anyway.

I don't like G610 because of its super non-standard bottom row. As in, it's non-standard and it's a rare kind of non-standard.

Try looking for ducky keyboards, many of them fit all of your criteria.

I think only the spacebar has a different size or the whole bottom row entirely. Dont know about the one in the picture though there is no noppoo logo on the spacebar.
>>
>>56325093
the white one has thick PBT and the black one has POM

the spacebar is non-standard (5.5u) and you need a 1.75u right shift (which some keycap sets include or you can get it as an extra). the spacebar is basically impossible to get besides from the official noppoo white keycap sets or from shapeways (3d-printed). if you're handy you can modify the spacebar to make it fit but there will be one or two seams (which you could cover with a strip of electrical tape or vinyl wrap).

To be honest it's better than buying a used model M since the rivets won't fall off, but the keycaps and case are cheaper feeling.

A used model F AT/122 or even an XT would be better for the money, those are indestructable. They do need converters (AT is cheapest to convert) and they're even louder, though.

>The Atreus's mechanical switches enjoy great popularity among keyboard enthusiasts for their precise, crisp action. Most keyboards use a layer of cheap rubber to provide resistance under the keys, but each of the Matias switches in the Atreus has its own separate spring. The clicky ones emit a sound to let you know precisely when the switch has activated, but non-clicky ones offer feedback you can feel without the click noise.

what's the point of this? The only people who buy this are the diehard keyboard memesters, and they already know far better than the dumbed down, aimed-at-normalfags explanation of mechanical switches that this little blurb offers.
>>
>>56326838
that's an extremely pretentious point of view
>>
>>56326837
"It probably would affect it in some way. At the very least, it would leach out plasticizers from the plastic and cause them to become more brittle. It depends on the exact monomer composition."

obviously most don't put them in ISO for 10 hours straight, but it does have a gradual effect. especially on cheaply made caps.
>>
>>56326876
i wonder if making ABS keycaps more brittle could be a good thing though? since PBT are more favored and PBT is also more brittle
>>

It's just a bunch of buzzwords that get thrown around all the time when it comes to selling mechanical keyboards, no enthusiast will care for them. He could just say straight out with what kind of switches it comes/what switch options there are (since it supports more than just matias switches) and be done with it. Why would you dedicate that much text to a massdrop-tier marketing blurb when you're catering to enthusiasts?

1. Mostly muh feels and clacks. And smaller form factors.
2. Depends on form factor, type of switches and features. My keyboard is ~$75 and for me it's the best thing that exists. Generally ~$100 can get you decent things.
3. You can't know which switches you'll like until you go to an electronics store and try different switches yourself. It's pointless to theorize on it. Like, I thought I'd like brown switches, but hated them from the first keystroke when I poked one in the store.

If you're going to be that much of a faggot then buy the keyboard first. After you've left the store go home and try the keyboard for a day. If you don't like it then go back to the store and lie about it not working.

At least then, you can pretend not to be a faggot in front of the other people in the store.

Currently have browns, want stiffer keys. Heard that greens are harder blues and have a "lower tone" sounding click. Also need a new keyboard for my massdrop miami keycaps coming soon.

Any input on the quality of this keyboard? I was hoping to find something with a metal frame or top but I found those are limited to rgb gaymer keyboards and other much more expensive options.

ITT: Poorfags who are bad with money decide to buy a shitty custom mech keyboard without a number pad as a "Feature" when in reality they just can't afford a full custom keyboard but can't just buy a premade one for the same price because other poorfags wouldn't jack off to shitty "artistic" pictures they took of it with their moms cameras.

Your keyboard is far to few keys to be worth buying.

Still has more keys than you have brain cells.

yes and i found it funny
>>
>>56333121
if you're arguing against those, especially sub-60% you kinda have a point, but you were talking about just the numpad, but 65-80% is fine imo

my roccat kone still works thanks to opening it up a few times and that thing is is over 9 years old with thousands of hours of usage.
You can remove the pads quite easily with a hair dryer

Fuck the buyer's template, I need a tenkeyless or 60% keyboard with MX Greens or MX Clears that comes with high quality keycaps. US.
