Now that the dust has settled: XFCE or LXDE?
In what Metric?
LXDE with Whisker menu.
>>56310065
XFCE, way more comfy. LXDE reminds me too much on IceWM.
>>56310065
Xfce
>>56310065
Cinnamon
install gentoo
xfce, obviously
xfeces even if it feels like it's using more RAM than it should. Sure 200 MB isn't a lot for a modern computer but it still feels like a lot for what it's doing.
>>56310065
XFCE makes debian comfy.
>>56310261
Doesn't LXDE use like 180 though?
>>56310065
Xubuntu because their whisker menu is comfier
XFCE because most LxQt, like most Qt software, is designed like ass with horrible whitespace distribution and/or windows crammed full of too many controls.
Neither is truly excellent though. Would love to see a truly new, from-scratch, design-as-a-single-piece minimalistic Qt DE project. Anything gluing together old shit isn't going to be as good as it could be.
>>56310065
explorer.exe
>>56310065
Both of these, along with MATE, are the best desktop environments. Personally, I prefer LXDE. It's simple and snappy.
>>56310650
I love XFCE, but I can't stand the tearing.
How's MATE?
LXDE hasn't been updated in ages :(
>>56310439
>>56310668
MATE uses about the same resources as XFCE, but I find it to be a lot faster. It reminds me of the classic Ubuntu days.
Is lxde still being developed? I thought it was long dead..
>>56310065
what dust?
also Xfce, maybe LXQt soon
>>56310714
Nice, I will try it in my Debian install.
>>56310065
xfce
a better question is xfce or mate
xfce is comfier but mate is easier to use
Using xubuntu atm so I'll say xfce but I would like to hear from people who've moved from xfce to lxde and why they've done it. I'm also considering moving to a tiling wm once I get more proficient with linux
>>56310426
This.
xubuntu is top tier.
>>56310065
Neither. KDE is the superior desktop environment.
>>56310668
I find MATE to be shit. Xfce doesn't tear if you use Compton for compositing.
>>56310898
mate has compton, it fixed my tearing when i used it
Unity
>>56310090
I love IceWM. I was in doubt, but now that you've said that I'll choose LXDE.
XFCE. LXDE is ugly as fuck
>>56310897
Congratulations on finally leaving the DE 2.0 era
>>56310930
why? using unity now and it works, but it's busy. I see no benefit to using it
>xfeces
>>56311159
FUCKING WRECKED
YES
>>56311148
There's no such thing as "benefit" when it comes to personal preference.
they both look so fucking awful
>>56310990
what have i done? ;_;
>you will never be a mexican shitstain
feels good man
XFCE or Openbox + Tint2
I used Xfce at first but once I tried i3 instead I can't go back to a regular DE
Especially since I'm on a laptop, it's so much faster and easier to not have to fuck with the touchpad
>using a de
LXDE. XFCE has really bad screen tearing issues.
Can LXDE have a global menu bar? If not, Xfce.
>>56310065
>now that the dust has settled
this shit should be bannable
Neither
I recently switched from xfce to lxde. I prefer lxde, openbox, etc.
Cinnamon
Openbox, or gnome if you must have a DE. Lightweight DEs are a waste of time. Window managers do the same thing better.
>LXDE
>moving to QT
Trash.
>XFCE
Looks ok.
MATE
>moving to GTK3
Best option.
>>56310065
Enlightenment with Wayland
>>56312672
I can't wait till mate moves to gtk3 so I can use hidpi scaling. Will probably switch from unity to mate in 16.10
LXDE
You can configure it however you'd like, and it requires less ram to begin with. Why would you limit your options? Unless you plan on using it as it comes installed...
>>56310065
LXDE. but in general MATE
>>56312672
>Using argenigger software
TopLOL
>>56310065
>using software who depends in the rootkit formerly know as X.org
Disgusting
