Because network speeds are commonly expressed in Mbit/sec. Because that unit makes sense. Counter-question: Why aren't storage sizes commonly expressed in bits?

because pepole are dumb and needed simpler mesurment but this days pepole are using more eletric storge devices so the storage devices sould be in 2 system
