Why do you keep putting off your backups?

i back up actual important things online as i go. i don't need to backup 2 gigs of memes and porn
>>
>>56300477
no room
>>
>>56300477

>boot a netbsd rescue disk
>can't put the entire disk image on my tahoe-lafs grid because the uploader ran out of swap
>I'm a unix wizard, things like memory limits ought to bow to my will
>write a script to upload 1G slices of the disk

File Size: 1073741824 bytes
Total: 16 minutes (1.09MBps)
Storage Index: 2 minutes (6.39MBps)
Peer Selection: 285ms
Encode And Push: 13 minutes (1.33MBps)
Cumulative Encoding: 5 minutes (3.45MBps)
Cumulative Pushing: 8 minutes (2.17MBps)

this way a 60 GB disk is going to take 30 hours

I back up daily.
Sometimes even more than once per day, depending on what I'm doing
A simple two-button shortcut launches my backup script, so it's not an issue.

having backups is not free. might do them some day tho..
>>
>>56304094
Where do your backups go? Don't you take out the hard disks you use as backup?
>>
Left is in use drive, right is backup.
Should I be worried?
>>
>>56304179
Well, the external drive is on top of my case, right next to an USB port. So technically it's more than just pressing two buttons, but plugging it in is a matter of a second, so is unplugging.
>>
>>56304094
>two-button shortcut

What program do you use for backups? Self-written?
>>
My drives are in RAID 1 and are less than a year old. I think I'm safe from drive failure for a little bit. I just need to figure out how to backup one of these days, and buy another external drive to facilitate it.
>>
>>56304224
It's just a script that calls rsync on different directories with different settings. I don't do full system backups though, data only.
>>
>>56300477
I don't

My last backup is from the 26th
>>
>>56304094
>online backups
I hope you get fucked over by a software error deleting all of your backups
>>
>>56304277
Who said I was doing online backups? Why do you get angry at statements that you made up?
>>
I have all my code on dropbox and git and everything else on my drive is torrentable
>>
i do have a tape drive. just need to start using it.

I have a raid 1 NAS and I just save files directly on it.
All my other important stuff is on github/dropbox.
On disks inside my computer I just keep stuff that I'm ok if I lose it.

I regularly clone my SSD to a HDD incase it fucks up or gets stolen so I can put it in a new one and be good to go,

photos and notes are stored on Dropbox with other key files so i feel pretty comfy
>>
>>56300477
Because I don't have a Seagate drive.
>>
I use Windows so the NSA has a backup of all my files anyways.
>>
>>56304298
If your backup process is launched entirely by software, then it means your backups are online (i.e. connected to your system)

Now if you had to do an extra step like getting them out of cold storage and inserting them, or physically connecting two servers (or at least entering a password manually), it would be a different thing.

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
