>Whats the best most up to date BSD distro
openbsd and freebsd get regular releases, netbsd is "when it's done"
>whats the driver support like
ok, but avoid nvidia and broadcom
>can I install steam
possible on freebsd but clunky as fuck since it's not meant to be
>>56267123
ok thx, well gaming isn't really necessary, I'm just looking for something lightweight to install on an old core 2 duo with 3.5 gigs of ram I don't have wireless card for it yet but I'll keep that in mind may give netbsd a try
>>56267204
netbsd i find is a bit underdeveloped since they have to focus on so many architectures at the same time, but feel free to try them all if you want
>>56267204
You should probably give OpenBSD a try and see how it works for you. I doubt this machine is your primary one so it's probably alright to mess around with. Try openbsd then freebsd. Netbsd is a bit more complicated to use so I wouldn't recommend it right away. Dragonfly is not too difficult but it doesn't really offer much over freebsd for an old laptop

I want to install openbsd on my thinkpad, but I don't want to dual boot.
>>56269526
Enjoy no softwares then
>>56269575
Enjoy shitty memes
>>56269526
Why do you have to dualboot?
Not like you can do much with Windows on a thinkpad without it being slow as molasses.
>>56267108
You can run steam on wine on pretty much any BSD, FreeBSD is the one with the largest driver support (it's also the only BSD with proprietary drivers from Nvidia). All the BSDs get updated regularly.
>>56270232
OpenBSD has no Wine.
Wine is harmful software.
>>56270232
But which BSDs actually have Wine? Most don't.
>>56270262
It doesn't install it by default, but you can install it. PC-BSD and a few other BSDs install it by default.
