If you have unlimited high speed mobile data where you live and get at least 8mbps and strong LTE signal then signing up for a home isp is pretty much akin to being a cuck.

You can literally do that on the go, there's nothing stopping you from doing just that. Battery drain is exaggerated, even torrenting on LTE will only drain about 10% an hour at most if the screen is off.

>>can't ssh into your desktop or server
>>can't stream stuff from your server
Nobody wants to do that shit grandpa. A 200GB micro SD card is more than enough storage for all your shitty movies and chinese cartoons. 256GB microsd cards are already out and 320GB will soon be made as well.

That's worst case scenario, like old S3 with 2.1 Ah battery. Of course it will be lower depending on how non-shit your LTE modem, processor, and battery capacity is on your phone.

I get 2GB for $50 a month from Tmobile

the most I've ever used in a month was 600mb.
>>
>>56267305
lmao, I get that for $20 a month with boost.
>>
I get 5GB at "max speed" with the T-Mobile $30/month plan then it throttles but in nearly 4 years of using it I've never crossed the actual 5GB threshold, go figure.

Funny thing though: T-Mobile lets users do free speed testing nowadays using the Speedtest.net app - I've done like 30GB of speed tests in the past few months, I test most everywhere because they even sent me an email once asking me to do it because they claim it helps them improve their network.

Hell, I did like 2GB of speed tests today when I was out and about in my area, from a seriously shitty place where I barely got 1Mbps up and 100Kbps down (on a full bars signal with LTE) to upwards of 85/25 in some areas with new developments (nobody using the particular cell towers in those areas just yet).

Fuck, it kinda sucks that they're willing to waste the bandwidth in such respects and yet they charge more for their unlimited plan nowadays. In the past year I've probably done a quarter terabyte of speed tests across a variety of devices.
>>
>>56267301
>>I can't literally download and seed terabytes of content on my phone.
Just greentexting because you have no point?
>Of course it will be lower depending on how non-shit your LTE modem, processor, and battery capacity is on your phone

This. Why shouldn't I use the cell network for all this and more? Why am I storing music on my phone when I can stream flac (literally doing sshfs to ~/music ) from my computer at home like I do at work?

>>56266753
> Just because you can doesn't mean you should

Why? Only reason people don't is because the cost is fucking high. Only reason the cost is high is because cell companies can charge that and make a fuck ton of money while the government subsidies the cost of infrastructure (yet somehow keeps falling for the meme of the network operators needing to keep costs high to pay for it)

I dunno I hope we can just all have laptops and phones and get half decent internet where ever we want - for a lot of folks that would be totally sufficient and a zillion times more convenient.

Techs there, the cost isn't really that high for the ISPs. Only reason they fuck us is because they can.

Pic related, in socialist world we won't get fucked without at least a condom.
>>
>>56267713
Keep this shit on the down low but you can tap your cellphone internetz with pdanet which doesn't require root. Otherwise you're gonna have to find a tutorial specific to your phone to get root and do all those kiddy scripts stuff and whatnot.

>you can now tether 4g lte , enabling a VPN like PIA will unlock full speeds of like 14mb/s but unfortunately drains battery, I get about 1mb/s without VPN

Buy a ZTE Zmax Pro from MetroPCS and get the 60 dollar plan, the phone has a fucked up hotspot app that doesn't even update your hotspot usage at MetroPCS, so you get unlimited hotspot out of the box.
>>
>>56275805
metropcs uses slow deproritized t-mobile networks though. On top of that it's $5 more expensive each month.

Just pdanet that shit with boost, no need to spend half a day rooting and hacking your phone.
>>
>>56274601
I really think this is just a placebo. Sure the VPN hides what you're doing, which is great but I don't think it can boost internetz speed, that shit is governed by the tower's QoS algorithms.
>>
>>56275872
That's just made up horse shit, the only time T-Mobile ever puts their customers above MetroPCS is when you are in a big city and you've used over 21GB. I live in a small town where people hardly use T-Mobile, even less use Metro and I get amazing data speeds.
>>
>>56275902

VPN traffic is handled differently - not as open to packet inspection and QoS routing based on contents. Some of it comes down to the peering with your ISP. If they have shit capped connection to Netflix but fine to generic VPN traffic you can potentially bypass where that congestion is. It's all situational but worth trying if you think there is room for improvement.

Well I had metropcs and speeds were horrible. I could barely get 1mbps on lte even though I only used like 12GB of data a month. Now I get over 20mbps with boost.

Anyway if what you say is true then most people should stay away from t-mobile and their MVNOs.

What do you people use mobile data doing?

>have like 26gb a month on parents plan
>rarely use over 500mb
>>
>>56278164
When is the planet going to admit that money has no value?
>>
>>56278096
Pay by use is a much worse cancer than data caps
>>
>>56278164
when people quit paying for it, then it will have no value.
>>
>>56278282
If this country had decent consumer protection laws they could not charge for it in the first place
>>
>>56278187
Some of us have woken up and now use our phone as our home isp. It's pretty neat desu.

2.5GB 4G x 4 Lines for $100 with cricket

AT&T Speeds are pretty good in my area, sprint is slow as fuck (so is boost), and Verizon is fucking expensive.
>>
>>56278306
If this country had decent consumers we wouldn't have need mobile data because nobody would pay so that pissed off flappies app #9001 can report their position in real time.

GOTTA CATCH EM ALL
>>
>>56278518
my bad, its actually 2.5GB 4G x 5 Lines for $100 with cricket

The unlimited 4G plan is still comfy as fuck. Why do we still allow companies to fuck us in the ass with data caps?
>>
>>56278413
>some of us have woken up and made extremely poor decisions
That's not how you word that.
>>
>>56279295
Yeah, Material Black on the Samsung store.

Feels comfy at night , unlike the stupid white and blue they made for main colors in TouchWiz.

Where would I turn on PIA VPN? I don't have a VPN so can I still do this.
Speeds are still pretty great, i suppose ping could be better but still low enough I can multiplayer Dark Souls 3 no problem. Might not be great for fighters or fast online FPS games tho
>>
I pay 20 dollarydoos for 1.5GB /unlimited text / 250 mins of calls. I don't have much reason to stream while I'm out, if I'm bored I could just watch some animu I have on my SD card.

Would be cool to have unlimited 4G but Australian ISP are Jews.

$90/Month for unlimited talk/text/data. T-Mobile.
>tfw regularly hit 15+ GB per month from YouTube and OverChan apps alone.
>do all of my updates other than system updates on data as well.

They say they'll throttle me after 23GB, but I purposely dialed my data use up to 88GB the one month. They didn't do anything. Maybe if that were happening on a month to month basis.

I always pity those who don't have unlimited. Shits cash yo.>
>>
>>56284632
I wish T-Mobile had better coverage. I had to switch from them because I currently travel a lot, and the places I go to cause me to have a poor signal or no signal at all.

Maybe I'll go back in the future if that ever improves.
>>
>>56284799
Yea they're mainly only for high traffic areas. I love in NJ and get a full 5 bar signal everywhere that I personally go. Including at work and home which is close to 60 miles apart. Full 4G LTE the whole way.

I came from shit tier sprint. So anything was better in retrospect.

>once hit the cap doing fuck all on my phone
>checked data usage, and it showed an increase from youtube but I only watched maybe one or two videos on my phone at the time
>never hit it again
another time before this
>browsing the internet on my computer
>slower than usual
>call up ISP to say what the fuck
>told me I hit my cap
>never actually knew I had a cap, hit it for the first time that day
>extend the cap
