Can we have a thread about communications technologies? e.g. Shortwave radios, ham radios, vintage communications, etc. I never see this stuff discussed on /g/
I listen to Radio Havana on a $20 Tecsun portable, but for FM I just use an old Bose wave.
I'm very interested in SDR.

Tecsun seems like a good budget brand for shortwave listening. I think you can find some models that support up to 12 bands for just under $20.
scan the radio and find something interesting

How do I listen to local radio on my computer? Are there USB radio receivers?

Yes, with a slight bit of effort.

Whats the frequency range on that thing?

approx. 24 MHz – 1766 MHz

I never could get SDR working properly, even with supposedly"fully supported" dongles. Last time I tried, changing the frequency did absolutely nothing. Been meaning to try again.

I had to fiddle with the modified driver a bit to get mine working. Follow an instructable or video howto, one of them should cover it.
