Why not

Nice setup, I was gonna get the 8350 but I'll keep saving and get a Z68+2600k.
bumpo

>speccy threads are windows 10 generals
What makes you really think so?
>>56255361
the cost of Z68 motherboards makes that a pretty stupid idea, just get a current gen i5. You'll save maybe $50-75 by buying used, but you'll be stuck on a platform that is 5 years old with no upgrade path besides a new motherboard.
Get the newest motherboard you can afford and then you can always upgrade the CPU in a few years.
>>56257083
Actualy there still is an upgrade path, you can stick in a 3770k with faster ram.
>>56257393
yeah but thats not an upgrade, that's a side grade with hyper threading.
It makes far more sense to buy a motherboard with the newest chipset/socket you can afford, that way it has the longest possible upgradeability.
Buying Z68 5 anda half years after it's release is pants on fire retarded.
>>56257454
If it makes more sense depends on what you are going to use it for.
Z68x and 2600k's can be picked up for practically nothing nowadays and with a decent overclock they will do the job just fine (and Sandy bridge overclocks like the best).
150-200 bucks for a z68x with an I7 2600k
Or 450-500 bucks for an I7 6700k with a fitting motherboard.
Getting the newest stuff now, when you don't use the extra percentages of performance is what I would call pants on retarded.
Got this laptop for free from a woman who had divorced from her husband. It was just in storage and she couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. Nothing apparently though I'll admit it took me a few minutes to understand which way they wanted the damn power adapter to be plugged in.
>tfw this is the most powerful computer I've ever used and it has a 6 year old CPU & mobile GPU
>>56257495
On ebay Z68 motherboards go for $75-150+ depending on the board. Some can go for over $250, used on ebay.
The 2600k used on ebay goes anywhere from ~$70-140, higher for ones with particularly good OC results.
So you're looking at MINIMUM $150, and likely upwards of $250 unless you're getting super cheap quality shit that didn't even cost much in the first place.
And like I said, buy the MOTHERBOARD that is the newest you can afford, i'd take a 6600k+Z170 over a 2600k and Z68, sure the 2600k has hyper threading, but the 6600k is so much newer that it wont matter in the slightest and it will still perform better.
Not to mention having M.2/U.2, DDR4, USB 3.1, USB Type-C, upgraded iGPU for game encoding or other video encoding, etc, etc.
It's not just about what CPU gets the highest number in a benchmark.
The latency and overall quality of life improvements that have been made between the 2500/2600k and the 6600k/6700k are more than worth the $100-150 premium.
>>56257551
I bought my z68x with a 2500k for 140 euro, and that was 1,5 years ago.
I then sold my 2500k for 70 euro and got a 2600k for 110 euro, they are cheap as fuck.
Also the 6600k is faster yes, but the difference is very small, and that's 5 years of generational improvement.
Pic related, seeing as how a 6600k setup will cost you more than twice what a 2600k setup would cost you, you would be mad to always buy the newest stuff, unless you absolutely need the newest shit for work or something
>>56257604
Also the 6600k is running much faster ram, keep that in mind
>>56257604
I can get a 6600k, motherboard, and 8GB of DDR4 RAM TODAY for ~$320
It would cost me RIGHT this second ~$270 to buy a decent Z68 motherboard and 2600k on ebay, if I waited around I MIGHT be able to find a better deal, but it's no guarantee.
I dont give a shit what your eurocurrency can buy you, a 2600k in the USA is the most retarded purchase you could buy, especially if you're already coming from a 6 year old platform (AM3+ and 8350), a 2600k and Z68 is basically the SAME exact features, but a slightly better IPC.
What a fucking joke of an "upgrade".
Again, in the US it would save you ~$50, that $50 should just be spent on the new motherboard and you can buy a 6700k or 7700k used in a few years if you want something bettter.
>>56257604
I have a feeling i5 is going to be phased out of gaming soon. It will run games on low setting only.
>>56257660
Look at this mad Ameriblob getting all greacy and sweaty by seeing hard numbers that he overspend on his 6600k.
I'm kekking hard right here, keep buying all the latest and greatest without actualy researching anything you idiot.
>>56257700
>his 6600k
This must be one hell of a 6600k
Just keep being buttmad that europoors get fucked over on new hardware.
>>56257661
u sound ignorant
games are becoming less CPU bound thanks to DX 12 , vulcan and future API.
do some research
>>56257706
seems like you got buttfucked even harder.
All of my keks
>>56257772
In what way? I paid $290 for this CPU
>so many wintendo gamers in one thread
>>56257774
In a way that it looks nice in a benchmark, but if you don't actualy use it for video rendering or other stuff it is useless
In a way that you paid 100% extra for 20-30% more performance
Is it true that if you eat cherry pits you can get cyanide poisoning and die?
>>56257801
Well considering my 17TB of storage space, and the fact I use a low end video card, MAYBE, just MAYBE I do some encoding instead of gaming.
>>56257135
But hey, might as well meme everyone here is from /v/
>>56257744
How does that make any sense? They get better multithreading and somehow you think they won't utilize it?
>>56257813
the 2600k has better multithreading than the 2500k...
that was what almost 6 years ago now? Why haven't they utilized it?
So, 10-people. Are you at least still on 1511?
>>56257809
>17TB
That's just for porn though, be honest
>>56257862
It's not, that would be a lot of porn, though I have some, it's not even over 1TB. I'd wager maybe 300-500GB of various hentai/porn.
>>56257867
>hentai
Ffs I should have guessed
>>56257874
do you know where you are anon?
How much of a pain will it be to move my OS, 2 or 3 games, to an SSD?
>>56257829
They do in that benchmark.
>>56257946
yup, 15-20% different on one of the most well threaded titles released in recent memory.
The witcher 3 will even fully utilize 8 or even 10 cores on the 6950x.
In the majority of games this isn't the case.
But hey, i guess your argument hinges on the best case scenario.
I need moar cores.
Not AMD cores, though. The heat pouring off these things is bad enough.
>>56257516
>Clevo
Good shit right there senpai
>nearly everyone in this thread is on Windows 10 besides 2 people
What the fuck?
>>56258036
What the fuck did you expect when it was a free update and DX12 only works on it?
Not to mention the general desktop performance enhancements make it a bit nicer to use daily.
>>56258036
Welcome to /g/ where the handful of people who hate windows 10 shitpost nonstop about it.

you're retarded if you think AMD shills are shilling against W10.
Linux support for AMD GPUs is shit, they all use Nvidia.

>32gb of shit performance ram
>>56258088
So, with those temps, I take it you can't do any work on that?
>>56258230
>he doesn't know that DDR stands for Double Data Rate
>he doesn't know that DDR always reports half of actual clock speed
>he doesn't know that 900 MHz means 1800 MHz when talking about DDR RAM
The tech illiteracy of /g/, everyone.
>>56254912
Got my new GPU yesterday
>>56258230
>what is ddr
>what is 933x2
Why do you retards suggest speccy again? It's awful. It can't even detect RAM properly, misreads people's overclocks, misreads people's temperatures, isn't even free software, and doesn't do hidpi scaling correctly
>>56258343
shut the fuck up jordan, go make something better or stop bitching, you post here daily anyway.
>>56258354
Also it puts (Unknown) outside one of my disks for no reason
Guys is this the new Windows 10 thread?
>>56258343

It doesn't, though.

nice and cool.
No one cares about your specs - the thread
It's actually a pentium g4400. Dumb speccy. What would you upgrade first /g/?
