Samsung has always been slow on the draw with updates. Do you think the unlocked versions will see the update as quick as its Nexus counterparts?

No, it'll be just as slow as usual.
You could wait for a third party to start making it. That version of Android will probably be in stable before Samsung comes out with theirs.
