I don't believe in there being a such thing as "future proofing" a computer. It's going to be "outdated" in 2 years anyway when more graphics cards and CPUs/architectures are released, which will more than likely be significantly more efficient.

As for the monitor... Do you have any suggestions?
>>
Just reposting this for some thoughts on this build as i havnt done one in awhile. my budget is a maximum of £620 and this is what ive got so far hows this then for the £620 budget build for playing games at medium+
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/pyc68K
any good? will it run most games on atleast medium?

It is fine for your budget. For optimum gaming, I would drop to an i3, and see if the $$$ saved can get a better GPU.

Currently running this shit, was going to try and just upgrade the GPU for now. Will a 1060 be bottlenecked by my CPU? I only have PCI-E 2.0 ports on my mobo as well.
>>
>>56242130
I do not know what you can get with the $$$ saved. Maybe a GTX 1060 (6GB, non-castrated edition), or at least the RX480.

Definitely go to 16 gigs if you have the money for a 6600K and a 1070.
>>
>>56242714
Everything is fine. Standard build, no issues. The 1070 is a bit pricey though. There should be cards in the ~$420 range.
>>
Whats the best version of the rx 480 for under £240?
>>
Falconbro, are there any issues with replacing a mobo in an already working computer? This Asus Z97-A is shitting on me with power surges on USB ports and being unable to hold time properly even after changing the CMOS battery just a few months ago.
>>

Well which brand anyway
>>
>>56242754
I was thinking of going 16 gigs at first. I was told I didn't really need 16 gigs if I was just playing games, but since it's a pretty cheap upgrade I might as well go with 16 gigs.
>>56242754
I only picked that one because I liked how it looks and it's only $20 more expensive. When I actually start buying everything in a couple weeks i'll look at the prices a little more.

>how do i monitor my system and find bottlenecks? Namely GPU, CPU and RAM
I dont want to buy on impulse and without reason. I would like to keep track of clear numbers when im playing games and not rely on instinct on what parts might need an upgrade. CPU can be monitored with perfmon, do i just choose 1sec and % processor time or is there more to it? Now how do i monitor RAM and GPU and then put it in correlation? There are RAM monitors in perfmon, but what is important to look at and means what? Afaik you cant see the GPU, so how will i do that and put the numbers in correlation? Also i guess having 100% load during loading screens is rather expected, so do you only look at peculiar peak points and averages beside those?

>RAM specs.
I currently have g skill F3-10600CL9D. 1333mhz 2x4GB. I guess thats pretty bad and maybe little money can increase much. What specifications are important with RAM and how much do these really matter? Is the GB size important beyond 8, maybe 16, what would the increase in performance be? If we are talking gaming use, is speed more important? 1333 is pretty low, what would have more effect, another 2x4GB of my current RAM or a new pair of 2x4GB with maybe like 2400mhz? Will there be a notable difference? I dont have a skylake or DDR4 mainboard but is the difference between these (still talking RAM, not CPU) remotely worth the cost? What about latencies, pretty much all the same? My PC is very cool and silent so heat spreaders are of little importance, is the GB and MHz number the only important thing then or is the more expensive module from the better brand still preferable or do i not have to care as long as these numbers match?
>>
>>56243897

>lastly i5 v i7
i7 has hyperthreading, what else? Is there nothing to care about considering its a gaming build and not used for CAD, Photoshop, rendering and the likes?

>how do i monitor my system and find bottlenecks? Namely GPU, CPU and RAM
Using monitoring software while running your game. There are programs that can display an in-game overlay showing all the information you want. I like MSI Afterburner for this purpose.

GPU load bottlenecks are "normal" and what you generally want to see in a game. It's easy to determine: you've got 100% (or very close) GPU load.

CPU bottlenecks aren't necessarily easy to see. Obviously, if your CPU is close to 100% load it's probably holding your GPU back. Still, it's not always that simple. Having a single core at 100% with others at low load can still be a bottleneck. Sometimes you won't even see especially high CPU load, but if you ever get FPS drops that are also accompanied by GPU load drops you can generally assume it's something CPU related.

RAM/VRAM capacity issues are also easy to spot: if the game doesn't outright crash due to insufficient memory, it will probably be performing very poorly and you can see all your memory is full. If that's the case you need more.

RAM bandwidth issues aren't common and aren't easy to spot, you'll probably see some sort of symptoms similar to a CPU bottleneck. Higher speed RAM can often help with min. FPS especially and generally provide more consistent performance.
>>
>>56244101
>Having a single core at 100% with others at low load can still be a bottleneck
It can also just be a game that has shitty optimization.
>>

>>
>>56244101
Ill look into afterburner later, sounds like the thing im looking for
I know of the multicore dilemma but as you said, its not the problem at hand. I want to know which part i can upgrade to which capacity effectively for the usual cases, not for badly ported pos console or indie games.
GTA V had a general problem think. I always have this as an example in mind. For me it flooded the RAM by not realising the space, this resulted in having to restart the game every few hours. But the simptom was low fps, which could have also been the GPU(it wasnt). If Afterburner watches all 3 hardware components ser this question as obsolete, but which perfmon statistic is relevant when looking at RAM now?

Your color scheme is also going to be horribly ugly with a black/blue case, black/red gpu, red ram, white mobo. If you don't care about that though, go ahead. The parts will perform well.
I suggest getting an all black, or black/red mobo, and the black/red nzxt s340 instead.

I'm thinking of using a pair of aio coolers with kraken g10s on my 980s to avoid the 80*c temps under load.

the radiators would likely mount on the front of the case such that the air cooling those radiators will be going into the case.

I know this isn't ideal, but. Already have a 280mm aio rad mounted on top.

Does anyone have a similar set up such that they could let me know what kind of results they see?

As mentioned under load the cards will run around 80* with one between 80 and 82 and the other at about 78. They're stable so I'm not too worried, but I'd like a cooler quieter system overall.
>>
>>56244814
>single gtx 1070

>fucking why?

Power supply is around 327W, will be a little bit higher if I OC (closer to 400W). I originally got a 750W power supply, but this 850W was on sale and would cost nothing extra.

This is gonna be a new fag question I guess, but how long will it be until I want to upgrade you guys think? Like I want at least 60fps on medium settings.
>>

>>
>>56244907
>but how long will it be until I want to upgrade you guys think?
A 1070 will last you around 3 to 4 years of medium settings.
>>
>>56244814
>>56244907

Forgot to mention I'm trying to get my computer to only use about half the power supply. I know it's not necessary but it would be a nice luxury. Also I can use this power supply for future builds and not have to buy a new one.

>>56244839

I'm still kinda new to PC building so I might give bad advice. But I can tell that you might be able to get cheaper yet still better quality RAM if you want. Get a MSI or ASUS 1070 instead. You don't need a full tower, it will just be an eye sore. Maybe get a 600W power supply with at least a gold rating if you're going to over clock. Get a betetr monitor, something with a 144Hz refresh rate and under 1ms response time. I know Best Buy sells an ASUS one for like $270 that's probably over priced, but still a size size and swivel based (You can probably fins it cheaper some where else).
>>
>>56244925

So you're saying that with this build:

By the time February rolls around, half of them will no longer be able to spend their money on said pc parts, another 20% will have a macbook from Christmas from their parents and the rest will actually build a pc using 0 of the parts they are currently discussing.
